A Tale of Two Lobster Rolls

In olden times, the lobster was an abundant, filthy creature fit only for the mouths of the coastal poor & indigent. Over time, as the lands between America's coast got to try lobster for the first time, demand rose, resulting in less lobster & higher prices. Once trashy. Now fancy. A tale of two lobsters, if you will.

In Park Slope, on 5th Ave two blocks in either direction from Union St, there are two different but basically delicious lobster rolls...a tale of two lobster rolls, if you will.

Two blocks south of Union there's Luke's Lobster who, after a slight delay, finally opened two Fridays ago between President & Carroll. Through their Maine-influenced cuisine, they've grown from a food truck to a fourteen location chain spanning three metro areas (NYC, DC, Philly). Contrary to popular belief, their name is not a sly reference to one of the more popular soap opera phalluses of all time.

RUMORSVILLE: LOKI DOKEY?

It's like some scraggly, bearded, irrelevant septuagenarian kinda-Minnesotan Jew once said back in the days when it actually meant something but ultimately didn't:

THE TIMES THEY ARE A CHANGIN'

In the lonely village of what I suppose you could refer to as "Rumorsville, Brooklyn" we've learned that the times they are a changin' in Park Slope. Get ready for a yuppie in every brownstone!

Here's the deal...y'all recall how LOKI Lounge has been around for forevs...1999 & shit? Bar in the front, "lounge" in the back? Somewhat recently "secret" steakhouse 'round the bend? Welp...you may have to reconsider your current stance on moving upstate & working on Maggie's farm because in Park Slope, the times they are a-TOTALLY changin'.

5th Ave. Cat Clinic Serving Up Major Cattitude

Image Via Jezebel

Just a disclaimer, cats are my least favorite animal...right behind star-nosed moles and blob fish (you should immediately Google these things). I guess you could say that I'm a "dog person."

And yes, I know that YOUR cat is JUST like a dog and LOOOOOOVES people. My main question is...why didn't you just get a dog then? There is a very low chance of a dog not being "dog-like"...and a very high chance of a cat not being "dog-like."

Anyway...

One of our FIPS readers tipped us off about her experience with 5th Avenue Cat Clinic and let's just say...she has some less-than-flattering things to say about them. I will note that this place (from the outside) totally creeps me out.

Park Slope Ballers Circa 1979

Park Slope ballers in 1979 look...well, like EVERY MOTHERFUCKER in Williamsburg does now. Or, shall I say, Williamsburg folks look like us in '79 baller-form. Check out these videos done by clothing company, Capry, and delight in the fact that the location of this amazing fashion moment happened on our very own, 5th ave and 9th st. Here's another vid:

Saturday's Shopping shuttle a bust?

If you didn't blow your paycheck on Friday's Black Deals, there was a "Small Business Saturday" here in the Slope.

All afternoon, a school bus ran along 5th Avenue shuttling shoppers between 18th Street and Dean Street. The free transportation, courtesy of the Fifth Avenue BID, didn't look very busy. Did anyone else know this was going on? If so, did you take advantage?
