Park Slope Ballers Circa 1979

Park Slope ballers in 1979 look...well, like EVERY MOTHERFUCKER in Williamsburg does now. Or, shall I say, Williamsburg folks look like us in '79 baller-form. Check out these videos done by clothing company, Capry, and delight in the fact that the location of this amazing fashion moment happened on our very own, 5th ave and 9th st. Here's another vid:

I also learned a couple things after watching these gems:

  • We think selling organic summer squash on the corner is exciting, but people in '79 really knew how to party. To liven up the neighborhood, we need to figure out how to turn that Cash For Gold store into Brooklyn's version of Lincoln Center with a catwalk and some tents.
  • People were way less self concious about dancing in the daytime in 1979, sans any alcohol. (though I do think the annoucer is three sheets to the wind).
  • In today's fashion shows, you'll never see a smile. Models don't even think about not being solemn as shit while walking the runway. Not so in 1979! The more hip shaking and seductive clothing removal, the better!
  • I wish Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week was narrated by this same guy. It would be so much more interesting, though he may have to cut down on grinding all over the models like a 7th grade school boy. Anna Wintour DOES NOT LIKE IT.
  • Minus a couple feathered hairdos...nothing has changed.

This year, Lincoln Center...next year, Park Slope. Make it work!
