5th Ave. Cat Clinic Serving Up Major Cattitude

Image Via Jezebel

Just a disclaimer, cats are my least favorite animal...right behind star-nosed moles and blob fish (you should immediately Google these things). I guess you could say that I'm a "dog person."

And yes, I know that YOUR cat is JUST like a dog and LOOOOOOVES people. My main question is...why didn't you just get a dog then? There is a very low chance of a dog not being "dog-like"...and a very high chance of a cat not being "dog-like."

Anyway...

One of our FIPS readers tipped us off about her experience with 5th Avenue Cat Clinic and let's just say...she has some less-than-flattering things to say about them. I will note that this place (from the outside) totally creeps me out.

A Tale of Two Kitties

Each day I walk near two stray cats.  For one of them it is the best of times.  For the other it’s the worst.

If you’ve walked near the corner of 6th Ave and 11th st., you’ve probably met the Jennyanydots-like tabby that suns itself at the base of a tree or next to the apartment building.   This fat and happy feline seemingly owns that corner, regardless of how many kids and dogs pass by.  It has a bed near the stoop, food and water, and many friends.  I once had a cat who was completely fearful of strangers, so I thought it was really cool that I could walk up to this feline of no fear, and scratch its back.  He/she loves the attention.

Keep Your Eyes Peeled For This Missing Park Slope Cat!

I've seen a few of these flyers around 8th Avenue in Center Park Slope, and local humor writer/podcaster/performer julie klausner has sent out a Tweet urging Park Slope residents to be on the look out for this adorable tabby cat named Hudson. Let's hope he finds his way home!

FiPS Cares: This Cat Needs a Home!

Hey, Park Slope cat lovers! Listen up. Gogo Gowanus, a good friend of FiPS, recently rescued a stray cat and is trying to find her a good home.

Last week my girlfriend and I found a cat on 15th between 4th and 5th aves.  She was hungry and dirty, but very sweet.  After petting her a bit, she followed us home.  I took her in.  The next day, I brought her to the vet.  She had fleas, ear mites and an eye infection, but is otherwise healthy.  So, first off, is anyone missing a cat?  The vet figures her to be about 7 or 8, she is about 6 lbs and is missing the top tip of her right ear.  It seems that she has lived with people, but due to her condition at the time we found her, I think she's been on the street for a little bit.  If she is not someone's cat, does anyone want to adopt her?  I would love to keep her but my girlfriend has 4 cats (all rescues) and lives in Queens - it's just too difficult for us to take care of cats in both boroughs and see each other too.  We have dubbed the cat Mochi Grimes (she is sweet and cute like a Mochi, but also kinda grimy when we found her).  A bath and healthy diet has brought her fur back to soft and clean.  She is very sweet, well behaved and will cover shifts at the co-op.

Mochi is pretty damn cute. Just look at those eyes. You can tell she's pure sass. If you're interested in adopting her, please contact Matt @ kapmatt@gmail.com.

COOL OR NOT COOL: CATS IN BODEGAS?

IMAGE VIA DOOBYBRAIN

These days it seems like every Park Slope bodega that I go into is also home to a cat.

Sometimes they actually greet you before walking in – lying outside the store in a nearby plant or stack of newspapers. Usually you catch ‘em inside when least expected; hiding under shelves or curled up by a window. These felines are laid back and tend to leave you alone, save for a meow here or there. After all, they’re there to chase the mice away.
