[My Favorite Park Slope...] Place to catch the foliage

I know that Greenwood Cemetery is *technically* not in Park Slope. I know this. But when I first moved to Brooklyn I lived on 27th street and 5th avenue -- a place that the broker described as "the southern tip of Park Slope." So for a year I thought that me, the cemetery and everyone buried inside of it was in fact part of the beloved Brownstone Bugaboo nabe that the likes of Steve Buscemi and John Turturro called home.

Last Wednesday, my boyfriend and I took advantage of the beautiful 65 degree day and wandered south down 7th ave. When we hit 23rd street, we walked the perimeter of the cemetery -- down the avenues and across the number streets, until reaching the main entrance at 25th street and 5th ave. Once inside, we were greeted LOUDLY by the giant, wild parrots that live at the very top of the main entrance gate.

[My Favorite Park Slope...]: Place to Party and Peep Free Art

If you're having "one of those weeks" this week -- the one where you have to go to the TD Bank Penny Arcade to cash in all of your loose change to get beer money -- you might be looking for something to do this weekend that's super cheap but still really fun. This FIPS post is your official reminder that Saturday, November 5th, is the First Saturday party at the Brooklyn Museum.

[MY FAVORITE PARK SLOPE...]: FOOD TRUCK

This weekend while strolling along 7th Avenue, I came across my newly-appointed favorite food truck in the nabe. Parked on the corner of Carroll and 7th Avenue was Palenque, and they were selling homemade Colombian arepas.

I've always had a fondness for the Red Hook Lobster truck, but at $17 a pop for a buttery roll, it's a very occasional treat. Maybe it was the $5 price tag for a toasted corn arepa or a nostalgia for my Colombian childhood, but nothing ever tasted so good while basking in the sun on Sunday.

[My Favorite Park Slope...] Place to Get Fancy (Jewelry).

Image Via PS5thavebid Flickr

There are two types of jewelry that I'm used to: Zales/Jared/Mall Stores (TEXAS) or Cartier/Tiffany/Harry Winston (NYC)

Both...not great.

I've looked high and low for good jewels in the Slope...and there's a severe deficit, people. Comfortable walking shoes? Check. Kid's Clothes? Check. Good Vintage Shops? Check. Fancy Jewelry? MEH. So I'll admit, I walked by St. Kilda for about 2 months before stepping foot inside. Why, you ask?

[My Favorite Park Slope...]: Place To Drink After Getting Laid Off

For over two years, I worked at a large ad agency located in the clusterfuck that is Midtown Manhattan. This past March I was laid off with a gaggle of other sorry-ass folks not good enough to cut it with the Draper, Sterling and Price's of the world. On the morning of my execution, I received a call from my boss that went like this:

Boss: Hi Kerri. Could you do me a favor?

Me: Sure thing.

Boss: Can you meet me upstairs in chat room 3H?

Me: Is that the one right by HR?

Boss: Yes.

Me: The one that you invite people to when firing them?

Boss: ...

Me: Is Mitch the HR guy with you right now?

Boss: ...

Me: I'll be right up.
