[My Favorite Park Slope]: Samosa

Photo via www.zorsebol.com

I've had many Samosas in my day, but so far none have compared to the ones they have at Amin Indian on 7th ave and Union between Lincoln and St. John's.

In case you don’t know what a Samosa is and are too lazy to Google it (backhand to the face), I will tell you: it is a flaky, crispy, delicious pastry enveloped around spicy meat or vegetables. My particular favorite -- and the only thing I actually order in this place because once I discovered it there was no reason to try anything else —is the vegetable Samosa.

[My Favorite Park Slope...]: Tree

All photos by Park Slope Lens

Down by the boathouse in Prospect Park there's a tree whose weepy branches droop all the way to the ground. Its organic triangular shape reminds me both of the magical, house-assigning hat in Harry Potter and something straight out of a Jim Henson movie. The first time I stumbled upon it I half expected two large googly eyes to appear and invite me in for hot tea and Madeleine's.

[My Favorite Park Slope...]: Monday Night Meal

After spending the first day of the work week dealing with annoying cow-orkers (hyphenation intentional), the last thing you wanna do is try to figure out a dinner plan.

Fortunately, we have the delicious Austrian food at Cafe Steinhof. Cafe Steinhof gives their chef the night off on Mondays, and presents a limited menu that's got some delicious bargains.  There are a handful of starters, but the real deals are the entrees.  For $7 you get either gulash (that's how they spell it...not "goulash", FYI), trout or beans and kielbasa.  The gulash is terrific and spicy with hot paprika, but my personal fave is...wait for it...wait for it...

[My Favorite Park Slope...]: Place to Get a Rad Gift

Did you forget your mom's birthday? Did your father call the morning of to remind you? Were you invited to another flippin' apartment warming because you have friends that move once a year? What about cousins in the midwest getting married who would be charmed with a gift from the magic kingdom of Brooklyn?

[My Favorite Park Slope...] Place to Get Pampered on the Cheap.

[Yo, we like lots of shit in Park Slope, and this is where we're gonna talk about it all. Got a fave Park Slope somethin somethin? Email us and let us know, who, what, where, or why you love someone or something in Park Slope as hard as you do.]

I debated not writing about my favorite Park Slope nail salon for fear that my Saturday ritual of Gorilla coffee + manicure would be ruined due to overpopulation...but alas, it's all for the love of the nabe.

If I'm not mistaken there are roughly 367 Q Spa's in Park Slope but friends, don't be fooled. You need to hit up the one on 5th ave between Park Place and Prospect Place. They are not fucking around.
