[MY FAVORITE PARK SLOPE...]: FOOD TRUCK

This weekend while strolling along 7th Avenue, I came across my newly-appointed favorite food truck in the nabe. Parked on the corner of Carroll and 7th Avenue was Palenque, and they were selling homemade Colombian arepas.

I've always had a fondness for the Red Hook Lobster truck, but at $17 a pop for a buttery roll, it's a very occasional treat. Maybe it was the $5 price tag for a toasted corn arepa or a nostalgia for my Colombian childhood, but nothing ever tasted so good while basking in the sun on Sunday.

Aside from the traditional corn arepa, Palenque knows how to cater to the Slopers with organic quinoa, brown rice and lentil based arepas. Toppings include spicy chicken, beef, shrimp and vegan seitan and chorizo. They also sell empanadas, drinks and obleas -- a thin wafer treat with dulce de leche in the middle.

Although I didn't try the vegan options this go around, it did make the 8-year-old vegetarian version of me very happy. It's only the food truck's second weekend in the Slope (it spends weekdays in Manhattan and Saturdays in Williamsburg). Seriously, ya'll, try the obleas.
