Whassup: So This is December Edition

by 440 Gallery artist Ella Yang

This is it, folks: December. Brace yourselves for imminent slushy shitstorms and 25 days of inescapable Christmas tunes. The good part is, you have an excuse to hit the toy store for Toys '4' Tots. (I know there's at least one bin at the Armory Y on 15th). The other good news: Park Slope can't stop, won't stop for no season. Keep having the fun with Whassup: So This is December Edition:

* Thursday, Dec. 1-Sunday, Dec. 4: Cheap Art, 440 Gallery: Nab some pretty things on the cheap at this numerically appropriate holiday sale (art from $4.40 to $440). On sale will be work from the 14 members of this local gallery. Local art, now that's a thoughtful Christmas present which will also confirm all your family's assumptions about what an insufferably crunchy place Park Slope is. Everybody wins! Hours vary by day.

Whassup: Fun in the Dark Edition

Going to 11 (via wallpapergravity.com)

Now that it's getting dark at 5:00, I'm pretty sure that means you can start drinking at 4:00. And the descent of early evenings doesn't have to mean you stay at home crying in the darkness EVERY night. Come on out for some post-daylight saving's fun. It's Whassup: Fun in the Dark Edition:

* Friday, Nov. 11: None More Eleven, Rock Shop: Well, this is pretty brilliant. The Rock Shop celebrates 11/11/11 with a tribute to Spinal Tap. If you don't know why that's appropriate, then you probably wouldn't be interested, so I won't explain. Come check out a heap of musicians covering "Big Bottom" and other choice bits from the catalogue of one of England's loudest bands. 8pm, $10.

Whassup: Remember November Edition

via ancienthackney.blogspot.com

Hello, dear Park Slope enjoyers of things that are fun. I trust Saturday's slushy shitstorm kept none of you from donning skimpy things and devils horns. Because to not do so would mean giving up. Now, you may wonder what to do with all your satanic urges with beggar's night just a barely remembered drunken haze. Never fear, there's still plenty of irresponsible fun to be had. Welcome to Whassup: Remember November Edition:

 * Thursday, Nov. 3: Russian Cartoon Music, Brighton Beach: I don't have to tell you that Russians in Brooklyn are kinda' big right now. Well, there's some non-embarrasing cultural heritage there, too. Check out the Brooklyn Philharmonic playing through the long tradition of classical music set to Russian animation. Russian and Ukranian actors voice screenings of the cartoons. 8pm, $15-$55.
