Whassup: Remember November Edition

via ancienthackney.blogspot.com

Hello, dear Park Slope enjoyers of things that are fun. I trust Saturday's slushy shitstorm kept none of you from donning skimpy things and devils horns. Because to not do so would mean giving up. Now, you may wonder what to do with all your satanic urges with beggar's night just a barely remembered drunken haze. Never fear, there's still plenty of irresponsible fun to be had. Welcome to Whassup: Remember November Edition:

 * Thursday, Nov. 3: Russian Cartoon Music, Brighton Beach: I don't have to tell you that Russians in Brooklyn are kinda' big right now. Well, there's some non-embarrasing cultural heritage there, too. Check out the Brooklyn Philharmonic playing through the long tradition of classical music set to Russian animation. Russian and Ukranian actors voice screenings of the cartoons. 8pm, $15-$55.

* Friday, Nov.4-Saturday, Nov. 5: Burlesquaversary, Bell House: The Slope source for classy nekkedness, the Wassabassco Burlesque, turns lucky seven, celebrating with two nights of the sexiness. Bring your boob-watching spectacles. $25 per night, $40 for both, 9pm each night.

* Saturday, Nov. 5: Fawke It All, Bell House: Listen, we all know we'd love to blow up British Parliament if we could just find the time. Well, honor a man with the gumption to actually give it a go. Though Guy Fawkes failed in his explodey ambitions, he still gets a holiday. Because it's the thought that counts. This Bell House celebration gathers things British, from Britpop hits to greasy (and free!) Chip shop treats. V for Vendetta, which is likely responsible for any of you knowing who the hell Guy Fawkes is, will be screened. 10pm FREE.

* Saturday, Nov. 5: Target First Saturday, BK Museum: Now that winter has (prematurely) arrived, indoor museum festivals can take the place of in-the-park summer fun. Right? Come on, stave off SAD and go see the BK Museum's monthly smorgasborg of music, dance, drama, art, and other culture. 5-9pm, FREE.

* Wednesday, Nov. 9: Fifth Ave Fests, Fifth Ave (duh): The BID of Fifth has two events hitting the ave.

* Snag $5 drinks and snacks all along the Ave in the Fall Fest. $5 specials, 7pm.

 * If you like your Fifth Ave fun a little, say, DORKIER, try the Scavenger Hunt. You'll be searching for hard-to-find items all along Fifth Ave, like a young couple without dogs or pretention. JK, I assume you'll be finding things like "a pancake griddle" and "an orange fork" or something. Teams meet at Timboo's. You heard me right. It's the excuse to go into Timboo's you've always wanted. Winners get a $25 certificate to a Fifth Ave business. $15, 7-9:30pm.

* Wednesday, Nov. 9: Fracking Film, Bark: It's a truth universally acknowledged that the best things in life give you heartburn. Combine two of them by getting righteously pissed off while devouring hot dogs. The gourmet wiener purveyors at Bark are screening Gasland, the doc on one of the latest things to endanger your health/the environment: hydraulic fracking. The event includes a three-course dinner and Sixpoint brews. Proceeds benefit anti-fracking group United for Action. Seriously, when's the last time you got to feel morally superior while snarfing hot dogs? Two seatings, 6:30 and 9:30m, $30.
