Whassup: A Whole New Year Edition

Have you got your walk-of-shame outfit and hangover cures all lined up? Good, you're set for the New Year. In the meantime, enjoy all the fun to be had in the peri-New-Year's period with Whassup: A Whole New Year Edition:

* Friday, Dec. 30: DJs His N Hers, Bell House: Bummed you didn't nab tix in time for the sold out Ted Leo and the Pharmacists show? Well, drag your hipster ears down to the Bell House anyway, where the Brooklyn-based DJs His N Hers will be spinning discs of music nerddom in the front room while Leo rocks the back stage. Drop Your Balls in the Slope: A FiPS Guide To New Year's Eve

via demotivationalposters.org

The year is almost over, fellow Park Slopers, and that means it's time to look back in pride at all of your accomplishments, kept promises, hard work, and sacrifices -- it's a chance to take stock of how far you've come over the last year. I'm just shitting you. It's time to forget your own and the world's vast shittiness by getting shit-faced in the funnest neighborhood around. Don't stay home watching balls drop like some suburban hausfrau. There's plenty going down in Slope-area establishments, so hit the town like the Baller that you are. The world's ending next year anyway, so live it up. Here's the FIPS run-down of Slope New Year's happenings:

Whassup: All the Ho's Edition

via lolglobe.com

I don't know if you've heard, but Sunday is a big holiday -- one perhaps rivaling Black Friday in importance. Yep, Christmas is upon us; the time of year when New York cloaks itself in the imagery of classic movies and apartment after apartment of lonely single people cry into their overly-spiked eggnog. Your friendly Whassup writer finds himself in the heartland awaiting snow, but for those of you still in the Slope, prepare to jingle your bells: It's Whassup: All the Ho's Edition:

* Through Christmas: Dyker Lights, Dyker Heights: If you've got some sturdy retinas, a tolerant Holiday-cheer-gag-reflex, and preferably access to a car, trek out to the further reaches of Brooklyn for Dyker Heights' extravaganza of Christmas lights. It's all the glowing Christianity you'll need until Christ appears before you on your death bed in all His glory. And, if that doesn't happen, well, you will have peaked in Dyker Heights. Best viewing, 7-9pm.

Whassup: No Office Party Edition

It's the season of the office holiday party, which means it's time to warm up your ass cheeks in preparation for the copy machine/your boss' drunken hands, load up on eggnog, and change who can see facebook photos that get posted of you. But hark! There are other, somewhat less uncomfortable things to do this week! Welcome to Whassup: No Office Party Edition:

* Thursday, Dec. 8 and Thursday, Dec 15:
Snowflake Celebration, 7th Ave: Let's be honest -- the holidays are really about discounts. With Black Friday just a pepper-sprayed memory, you've still got some sales a-comin'. Seventh Ave shops will have a range of discounts, along with a "No sales tax X-mas" promotion during this festival. Also, carols and Christmas treats and other nonsense. Doors open until 9 or 10pm.
