Whassup: Fun in the Dark Edition
Now that it's getting dark at 5:00, I'm pretty sure that means you can start drinking at 4:00. And the descent of early evenings doesn't have to mean you stay at home crying in the darkness EVERY night. Come on out for some post-daylight saving's fun. It's Whassup: Fun in the Dark Edition:
* Friday, Nov. 11: None More Eleven, Rock Shop: Well, this is pretty brilliant. The Rock Shop celebrates 11/11/11 with a tribute to Spinal Tap. If you don't know why that's appropriate, then you probably wouldn't be interested, so I won't explain. Come check out a heap of musicians covering "Big Bottom" and other choice bits from the catalogue of one of England's loudest bands. 8pm, $10.
* Sunday, Nov. 13: Leaf Taker, 6-15 Community Garden: If you're lucky enough to own a tree in Brooklyn, don't bogart the leaves. The Green Community Garden at the corner of 6th Ave. and 15th would like to keep those bough leavings from the landfill and use them as mulch. Drop off clear, plastic or brown, paper bags of leaves between 11am and 1pm. Also happening Nov. 19 and Dec. 3.
* Monday, Nov. 14: How I Brooklyned, Union Hall: The (usually) Manhattan-based "How I learned" storytelling series hits the hip borough in, where else, Park Slope for ONE NIGHT ONLY. This month, the magazine of writers, comedians, and performers tackles the theme, "How I learned you can't go home again" with stories of the places they grew up. Come find out if any of them tearfully admit to being from Krypton and having super powers they were too lazy to use. 7:30pm, $8.
* Monday, Nov. 14: Punderdome 3000, Southpaw: The competition of wordplay so bad that it's awesome returns with the usual round robin of punsters, judged by audience clapter. It's an extremely dorky good time. 7:30pm Doors, $5.
* Tuesday, Nov. 15: Maude SLAM, Tea Lounge: FIPS' own storytelling internet curser, Kerri Doherty, hosts her monthly story slam event, I Like You Maude, with special guest tale-spinner Dana Rossi. Come drop your name in the hat to become famous throughout the coffee shop. 8:30pm, FREE.
* Thursday, Nov. 17: Art Alexakis, Bell House: All your favorite '90's alternative acts are cool again. Right? Well, pretend they are at least, and hum "I will buy you a new life" on your way to catch Everclear's frontman do his solo stuff and, presumably, the band's hits. 8pm Doors, $20.
