Meet the REAL Dog Owners of Park Slope

So, I've had a calamitous two weeks. Let it just be said that it's ironic (yes, i said it cupcake man!) that i would be quoted in New York magazine demanding a retraction on that Park Slope as city's greatest hood designation at this moment in time. And, by the way, I want to redouble my call to douchey Manhattanites to stay put.

HAPPY ENDINGS: Cocker Spaniel Was Found!

FIPS reader Tom sent this update from the FIDO newsletter from the parents of the missing cocker spaniel whose sign we posted about last week. He was found! Check it:

"We were lucky enough to have a ton of media coverage in the last couple of days - radio, TV, newspapers and blogs (including yours) - and as a result we got a very specific tip-off last night from someone who thought they had seen him in Red Hook.  We headed down there early this morning hoping to catch a sighting on his morning walk, and sure enough a few hours later we saw someone walking our dog in the Red Hook projects.

We called the NYPD and when they turned up two minutes later, we knew which building and even what apartment he was in (as I said, the tip-off was very specific).  It turns out that the people there had bought him from a guy on the street last week - he was bought as a family pet and had been well cared for.  We headed with the police over to the vet clinic on Warren and Smith where his microchip positively identified him as our dog.  Case closed!

Thanks so much for all your help with our search.  We're so thankful for how everyone in our community - friends, neighbors and strangers - have supported us and our mission to find our boy."

Thank gawd.

Sidenote: who the fuck BUYS A DOG off of someone on the street. I mean, I appreciate that the people were taking good care of him, but that's also the stupidest fucking thing I've ever heard of.

Anyway.

Glad the little dude is back home with his fam.

SAVE WALTER: GET YOUR ASSES TO THE GATE RIGHT NOWWWW

Have you guys seen the recent story about a group of Southpaw bartenders who have banded together to save this ADOOOORRRRABLE dog Walter?? If you want to start crying your eyes out like I just did, click through to the blog they started for him and hear (and see) all about how they rescued him from the street (after someone had thrown him out of a car!), are paying for his care (he was severely malnourished, dehydrated and suffering from mange), got him to a doggy dermatologist (Dr. Gilbert?) and are nursing him back to health. OMG, srsly...I'd like to take this moment to publicly declare my love and undrying affection for EVERYONE involved in Walter's story so far.

But now is your chance to join in and help too.

Today at The Gate is "Pouring Beer for Walter" day. That means that a portion of the proceeds from the all the beer your ass can drink is going to be donated to Walter's vet fund. So you know what that means, ppl!?: GO GET YOUR ASS DRUNK AT THE GATE!

I know we've been bitches about The Gate in the past around here, but this shit is different. Our love has been reborn. Stop what you're doing right now, get your ass down there and start drinking. And keep drinking till you can't drink no more.

My ass is stuck at the #140 Conference or I would be down there my damn self.

Ready, set, DRINK!

NYC On Track To Be A 'No Kill' City by 2015

The ASPCA renewed a $1 million grant in support of the Mayor's Alliance for NYC Animals. There's a 57% decrease in euthanasia at the city's 160 shelters and rescue groups, and 109% increase in adoptions.

Hells Yeah!

NYC is also apparently on track to become a "no kill" city by 2015! So, maybe I won't have to watch that fucking Humane Society commercial with the Sarah McLaughlin song that makes me cry like a lunatic anymore?? (I mean, of course I LOVE the Humane Society, but that shit gets me e-v-e-r-y time). So yeah, lets all stop killing doggies and kittens pls.

And SERIOUSLY ppl: If you are thinking of getting a dog or cat, please, please, please, please ADOPT.  PLEASE!!??
