The Salads Are Coming! The Salads Are Coming!

FiPS takes credit for a lot of things: the discovery of the Higgs Boson, the existence of corgis, the release of the Mitt Romney's secret footage (and this video, too), etc. Some things we probably shouldn't -- though David Corn totally is our Coop spy. But Just Salad taking up residence in Park Slope? That one's alllllll us, yo.

We told you last week that Just Salad was coming into Seventh Avenue space for the former, much-hated Parkslope Eatery. When the place finally tanked in June (there is a god?) we cried out, Hark! Salad cometh?! and our prayers have been answerd...answeredth!

Konditori Shut By DOH on Thursday

Things that make me drop my jaw and twist my face into a Renee Zellweger I-just-ate-something-rancid expression: Walking to Konditori on Seventh Avenue at 8:45 this morning, seeing it shuttered with Department of Health notices up on the door.

Here's the sign on the door:

The Park Slope Salad Bar You May Not Have Known About

Here at FIPS we’ve repeatedly bemoaned the lack of DIY salad bars in Park Slope that seem to be found on every street corner in Manhattan.

Turns out that all along there has been a plentiful buffet of veggies and lettuces, hidden from view by a giant building full of medical staff, patients and distracting ambulances.  Yes, there’s a salad bar in the bowels of Methodist Hospital on 7th Avenue.  In fact, there’s a whole cafeteria that serves up pizza, sandwiches and entrees of all types that are served from morning to evening.  And you don't even need to walk into the hospital pretending to want to visit your great Aunt Myrtle post hip surgery, or clutching your side while faking a ruptured appendix. You can just stroll right on in from the side entrance on 6th Street and get. Your. Salad. On.

Be Still My Clogged Arteries: Uncle Barry's Serves prosciutto-wrapped Twix bars!

Photo via The Brooklyn Paper

Sweet and savory treats are perfect for those who are neither sweet tooth nor salt nut, but the perfect combination of both. I am this person, having spent as much on a week's worth of Vosges' dark chocolate bacon bars as I have on my monthly electric bill. Yum.

Uncle Barry's Bar on 5th Avenue has put their own weird spin on this pairing of sugar and salt with the creation of their prosciutto-wrapped Twix bar. Though I've never been a huge fan of Twix bars (the caramel always stretches too far and drips down my chin and onto my shirt -- it's a personal problem, really), The Brooklyn Paper does a fine job describing the creation process:

Pinkberry to open in Park Slope on July 20th

HOLY. CRAP. Did you know that "Pinkberry" isn’t just your Midwestern aunt’s cutesy name for her lower lady bits? TRUE STORY. It's also the name of a Cali-based chain of frozen yogurt joints. FRO YO. YOU KNOW, YO? Ok. That is the last time I will call it that. Stupidest snack name ever.

As Erica mentioned in her April Pinkberry-tingling post about the current state of Park Slope frozen treats, this summer Park Slope residents are getting a Pinkberry of their very own--on July 20th to be exact.

I recently had a brief chat with Pinkberry’s Director of East Coast Operations Pete Casey, and he told me that in the weeks leading up to the opening on 7th Ave and Garfield they'll be stopping by local businesses to hand out samples of their frozen yogurt. By the 19th they will be hosting a friends & family opening from 6-10pm where the public can try a small version of their frozen yogurt with a topping. The next day, they'll officially open.
