Be Still My Clogged Arteries: Uncle Barry's Serves prosciutto-wrapped Twix bars!
Sweet and savory treats are perfect for those who are neither sweet tooth nor salt nut, but the perfect combination of both. I am this person, having spent as much on a week's worth of Vosges' dark chocolate bacon bars as I have on my monthly electric bill. Yum.
Uncle Barry's Bar on 5th Avenue has put their own weird spin on this pairing of sugar and salt with the creation of their prosciutto-wrapped Twix bar. Though I've never been a huge fan of Twix bars (the caramel always stretches too far and drips down my chin and onto my shirt -- it's a personal problem, really), The Brooklyn Paper does a fine job describing the creation process:
"To construct the not-so-elaborate snack, bar co-owner Jake Trebach retrieves an individually-wrapped chilled mini-Twix bar and strips away the plastic outer sheathing to reveal the delicate brown morsel within. He then takes a thin cut of salted and seasoned pork flesh, purchased from Blue Apron Foods on the corner of Seventh Avenue and Union Street, and carefully winds it tight around the chocolate. Finally, he impales the creation with a toothpick, and balances it on a rocks glass."
You can buy one pig-wound chocolatey bar for $3, or two for $5. Has anyone tried this yet? If so, let us know what you think until I can get my ass down there to try one for myself!
