Culture opens their second location [in Manhattan]

It's been a little over two years since Culture first opened their doors in Park Slope. (Remember the food boner we had when we first tried it?). Since then, what seems like 100 yogurt and gelato places have opened in the neighborhood, each trying to take a bite of Culture's business. Yet none of them have succeeded at scooping away Culture's customers (We'll stop with the puns now, we swear). Which is why Culture decided to open up a second location!

Breaking: Manhattan Finally Gets Some Culture

We just got the inside scoop from co-owners Jenny and Gino Ammirati that they signed a lease at 60 West 8th Street in Manhattan, where they expect to open their second location this Spring. Sweet nectar of the gods, this is exciting news. New York Magazine wrote about the burgeoning food scene on West 8th Street last April, so Culture will fit right in. Lucky you, West Village people! 

So Yeah, Everyone is Pretty Excited About The New Yogurtland

Frozen yogurt mecca Yogurtland is going into the old Sette spot on 7th Ave and 3rd Street...a few short blocks away from the newish other frozen yogurt mecca Pinkberry; down the block from the soon to be ousted Yogo Monster; and up the street from Tasti-d-Lite on 7th Ave and 9th. And let's not forget Yogurtberry, Fro Yo on the Park next to the Pavilion bedbug factory movie theater. OH, and newly opened Pearl Gate Frozen Yogurt on 5th Ave, Sky Ice and, of course, Culture. 

Is fro yo officially the new pizza? Or burgers? 

Based on the graffitti on their coming soon sign, everyone in Park Slope is t-o-t-a-l-l-y psyched about it.

Coming to Culture: Dairy Cow Dream

We here at FIPS have an unabashed love for Culture and all of its tasty fro-yo delights. We also seriously dig our FIPS cartoonist-in-residence Steven Weinberg. So when we heard that both were joining forces this Saturday, we damn near lost our shit (and we can even take a little of the credit for hooking the two up).

Thanks to this illustration, the peeps at Culture dropped Steven a line and asked if he wanted to show some of his stuff inside their business. The result is "Dairy Cow Dream," which opens this Saturday, July 14th from 5-7PM at Culture's 5th Avenue location. There will be 15 new yogurt-inspired watercolors on display, all of which will be for sale at the event or through Steven's page on Society 6. And if you can't make it over on Saturday, no worries; the show will be up through the end of the summer.

Pinkberry to open in Park Slope on July 20th

HOLY. CRAP. Did you know that "Pinkberry" isn’t just your Midwestern aunt’s cutesy name for her lower lady bits? TRUE STORY. It's also the name of a Cali-based chain of frozen yogurt joints. FRO YO. YOU KNOW, YO? Ok. That is the last time I will call it that. Stupidest snack name ever.

As Erica mentioned in her April Pinkberry-tingling post about the current state of Park Slope frozen treats, this summer Park Slope residents are getting a Pinkberry of their very own--on July 20th to be exact.

I recently had a brief chat with Pinkberry’s Director of East Coast Operations Pete Casey, and he told me that in the weeks leading up to the opening on 7th Ave and Garfield they'll be stopping by local businesses to hand out samples of their frozen yogurt. By the 19th they will be hosting a friends & family opening from 6-10pm where the public can try a small version of their frozen yogurt with a topping. The next day, they'll officially open.
