FIPS CARES: Robicelli's Fundraiser

Robicelli's Cupcakes from Bklynography on Vimeo.

So sue me: I'm obsessed with Robicelli's cupcakes. Also, Allison and Matt Robicelli are really good peeps and don't mind when I make fun of kids all the time...even though they have two.

Anyway, now they need our help! And have promised me unlimited tubs of frosting if I post this! [ok, that's a lie. I mean, not a lie that I want unlimited tubs of frosting, but a lie that they promised it to me. Especially since they don't even use frosting from a tub...even though they could probably get it in one if I asked really nicely, but I digress).

We Don't Need No Geese, Let the MoFo's Burn!

Lilly Frances for Park Slope PatchSo there seems to be some buzz lately about the renewal of a contract that essentially enforces a government mandated genocide of NYC’s goose population. In fact, there was a gathering of protesters this weekend who all joined hands around the lake in Prospect Park ("Give Geese A Chance!") to stand up for these guys.

Back in June, The Department of Agriculture led about 400 Prospect Park Geese into their gas chambers, and apparently the goal this year is to remove ALL geese within a seven-mile radius of LaGuardia and JFK airports.

WHAT?!

FIPS CARES: This Brooklyn Family Needs Our Help

Oh man.

From the Huffington Post:

"In a nine-day span, both Nathan Bond, 38, and his wife, 36-year-old Elisa, learned that they have advanced cancer. Nathan found out on Valentine's Day.

Nathan has Stage 3 colorectal cancer. He has been given given a 60% chance of surviving five years or more. Elisa has Stage 4 breast cancer and has just a 16% chance of surviving five years."

The two have an 18-month-old daughter and are now facing the daunting task of fighting their respective diseases, caring for their daughter, and paying for it all.

FIPS CARES: FREE ADVICE FOR LOCAL PARK SLOPE BUSINESSES

Ok, so my war with Smartmom over this whole idea of "community responsibility" has brought up some good points. And while I still believe wholeheartedly that it's not up to me to help support some shitty Park Slope business just for the sake of embracing my community, as I mentioned, I'm more than happy to support the businesses out there are that don't suck and who are really trying.

I have some ideas....and my guess is you bitches do too. So this is where we let loose.

ATTENTION BUSINESS OWNERS OF PARK SLOPE: IF YOU WANNA HEAR WTF WE ALL WANT, KEEP READING. SCROLL DOWN INTO THE COMMENTS AND HEAR THE PEOPLE. WE PROBABLY HAVE SOME PRETTY FUCKING GOOD IDEAS.

In order to get this party started, here are some ideas from the FIPS crew:

GAY BASH: BENEFIT TO RAISE MONEY FOR BARIE SHORTELL

I've been reading about the horrendous gay bashing incident that took place on Feb 22nd in Williamsburg to local resident Barie Shortell...and the whole thing makes me wanna fucking puke.

From Queerty:

"At left is what Williamsburg resident Barie Shortell usually looks like. At right is what he looked like after his Feb. 22 neighborhood gay bashing, which left him with a broken nose, jaw, eye sockets, and facial bones -- and 9.5 hours of corrective surgery. Shortell, writes a friend, was "attacked and on the way home one evening. He was not robbed, but the people attacking him did mock him with anti-gay taunts before they attacked him…breaking his nose, jaw and eye socket. The attack has been deemed a hate crime."

Sadly, Shortell does not have any health insurance, and needless to say, he now has a gigantic friggin hospital bill to deal with. So, some friends of his have organized a benefit to help raise money to pay for his health care and his legal bills, and they're cleverly calling it The Gay Bash.

This shit goes down on Wednesday, March 23 at the Blackout Bar, and admission is $35.

I'm bummed that I can't make it, but I just made a donation here. And yep: It would be totally rad if you could do the same. There's also a Facebook page that's been set up here. And here's more info about the event here.

Thanks to Miss Heather from NY Shitty for sending this our way.
