FIPS CARES: Help a FIPS Reader Eat the World

You don't get a WHASSUP from me today, because if you were paying attention before, you would already know that the Park Slope Restaurant Tour is going down tonight. (See how I just stealthily reminded your non-TeuxDeux-using asses?)

However, in the spirit of all things delicious, Imma give you something to do instead, and that is help out a fellow Brooklynite. BCUZ FIPS CARES.  Here's the deal: FIPS reader, chef, and former Sloper (she's now a nomad for this project) Adrian is collecting recipes for a cookbook. She says:

I've been working on a project over the last 6 months.  It's called World Supper Adventure, which is based around collecting home recipes for a cookbook that involves me asking people "What is your favorite meal to cook for a guest?"

She's gonna travel around, cook delicious shit, and then make you a book so you can do the same.  She wants your recipes, the contact info for your crazy aunt Галина in Motherland Russia, and your dollaz for Kickstarter, too.  If you want to help this lovely lady out and see what's up with the project, here's your info.

And that's WHASSUP. Now I'm hungry.

FIPS CARES: Prospect Park Lake Cleanup

You know that big ass lake in the middle of Prospect Park? The one you sit around and make out with random girls who you probably just met that night at Union Hall and over 7 beers and a fried Robicelli cupcake "really felt a connection with?" Yeah, well, it's dirty and it needs to be cleaned, and you should just go help with that shit THIS SATURDAY.

This cleanup actually sounds way more fun than your average cleanup as you get to tool around the lake in pedal boats as you fish dead bodies and geese carcases out of the water (KIDDING! PROBABLY!). Last year, they removed over 400 lbs. of track from the lake and over 1,000 lbs. from the perimeter of the lake, so there's a lot a shit that needs cleanin.

Oh, also this shit only lasts a few hours, so you don't have to give up your wholllllle daaaaaaay.

If you still can't make it, and/or you're too much of a lazy fuck, just donate some cash money.

Register or donate here.

And hear more about it on Hey Brooklyn from activist Tami Johnnson, who started this whole shebang.

FIPS CARES: Tornado Dog

Ok, ppl. Gather round and activate your Scooby sense: we've got our first lost Tornado dog!

She was found this morn at 6th Ave and Union Street by a caring Park Slope vet. She weighs about 35 pounds, has not tags (or microchip), and she's as sweet as can be. She's currently chilin at Symphony Vet Center on the UWS. And though, duh: I'm sure they're takin great care of her, we still need to get her back home to her family pronto.

Anyone??

Feel free to leave a comment below, call Symphony at 212-866-8000 or send an email to: palomacat@verizon.net if you know who this girl belongs to.

FIPS CARES: The Do Gooder Awards

So, The Brooklyn Community Foundation wants all you bitches to "do good right here" in the BK. I mean, like I'm sure they want you to do good e-v-e-r-y-w-h-e-r-e, but yeah: SPECIFICALLY here in Brooklyn. And they're so into this idea, they're giving out awards for the biggest and the baddest do gooders.

Only hitch is, they have no fucking clue where these do gooders are. Clearly they're not here on FIPS, but maybe you know where some of these bitches are? Cause if so, you should nominate them. They're taking noms from now through September 30, and then the voting kicks off on October 1st.

"We invite the larger Brooklyn community to submit nominations for those who they believe embody the highest value of community service and philanthropy; exceptional individuals who display an outstanding sense of giving back locally--with time, talent and/or charity. Candidates should work in one of the Foundation's five fields of interest: Arts for All, Caring Neighbors, Community Development, Education and Youth Achievement and Green Communities and have demonstrated a commitment to Brooklyn."

5 Do gooder winners will be chosen and each will be given 5k toward their indiv. charity or org. So yeah, if you know any non-assholes who remind you not at all of us, nominate em.

More info here. Or follow the Do Gooders on Twitter here

FIPS (kind of) Cares: PARROT ON THE LOOSE

Usually, FIPS Cares puts us on orange terror alert for missing dogs, but when I was walking along 12th street yesterday afternoon, I came across this little gem:

That's right—we've got a PARROT on the loose.  His name is Tango, and he says things like "Come on" and "Hello."  So if you're walking down the street and you come across a bird that says hello to you, call 917-364-8768.
