Park Slope Eats After Dark

Image via Park Slope Lens

Do you often miss a good dinner because some douchebag job keeps you busy until well after the sun goes down? Are you stumbling out of the bars late at night after a bucket's worth of cocktails, looking to eat everything that’s not nailed down? If you live in Park Slope, you’re in luck, sucka.

There are hundreds of restaurants and bars in the hood that serve food until 11pm, midnight and in some cases, beyond. We're not just talking Chinese food, diners and pizza places, either. You want a fat steak? Maybe some escargot? Park Slope has your back, yo.

Here are a few of my personal selects for great late night joints in the Slope:

Keep Jigglin': The Jell-o Mold Competition

Someone get ahold of Bill Cosby: Gowanus Studio Space (166 7th St between Second and Third Aves) is hosting its annual Jell-o Mold Competition this Saturday, 6/25 at 6pm.

A cadre of "artists" will make sculptural, edible objects using the most boring dessert option of all time.

Remember that episode of The Simpsons where Mr. Burns tries to endear himself to Bart by offering him dessert in the form of a gelatin dish?  "It's made of hooves, you know," he says.

What I'm trying to get at is that I'd much rather see it sculpted than eat it.

Competitors will be judged on creativity, aesthetics, sculptural integrity (as opposed to moral integrity), edibility, and best use of Jell-o.  For an $8 admission, you can see what these weirdos came up with and vote on your favorite for the People's Choice Award.

What's that?  You don't care about art and just want to get drunk?

Don't worry, buddy.  Jell-o shots are on tap for you, we promise.

Hot Dogs, Glorious Hot Dogs: Bark Expands!

Photo via Epicuire

If you’ve ever been spent the day in Brooklyn Bridge Park yearning for a good hot dog, those days of wishin' and hopin' and prayin' are officially over (well, until Labor Day that is). This past Saturday, Bark Hot Dogs opened their own concession stand on Pier 6, and they’ll be open Fridays through Sundays until midnight. Although the dogs aren’t particularly cheap in comparison to your everyday cart, you have the ambiance of the park to enjoy which surely makes up for it. They'll also serve burgers, wine and beer. Let's do this!

Photo via thisisgonnabegood.blogspot.com

Got $55 and nothing to do on the longest day of the year?

Brooklyn Exposed is hosting their first Tasting Brooklyn Dining Club at the Slope's own Palo Santo.

During each themed event, you will dine with and engage the company of ten, fifteen or even twenty-five dining companions. At each event, you will also experience a different 'journey': you may sample a multitude of cuisines; engage in conversation with Chefs and learn about their creative techniques; learn where and how restaurants source their ingredients, explore various culinary cultures, learn about kitchen mastery and menu design and so much more.

[WHAT YOU SHOULD ORDER AT...] Fonda

Image via Park Slope Lens

WHAT YOU SHOULD ORDER AT... is a recurring column designed in kind for your opinionated asses and our lazy asses.  We're going to pick one Park Slope resto a week and recommend our favorite dish at each.  Are we right?  Are we wrong?  YOU KNOW YOU WANNA WEIGH IN.

There is absolutely one type of food I can never say no to, and that's Mexican.  Cupcakes?  Whatever.  Chocolate?  Who cares.  Chips and guacamole?  GTFO out of my way, I want that shit right now.

Fonda (434 7th Ave at 15th St, 718-369-3144) was voted the best Mexican in the neighborhood, according to you guys, and they offer up some good stuff.
