Park Slope Eats After Dark

Do you often miss a good dinner because some douchebag job keeps you busy until well after the sun goes down? Are you stumbling out of the bars late at night after a bucket's worth of cocktails, looking to eat everything that’s not nailed down? If you live in Park Slope, you’re in luck, sucka.

There are hundreds of restaurants and bars in the hood that serve food until 11pm, midnight and in some cases, beyond. We're not just talking Chinese food, diners and pizza places, either. You want a fat steak? Maybe some escargot? Park Slope has your back, yo.

Here are a few of my personal selects for great late night joints in the Slope:

OVERALL LATE NIGHT JOINTS:

My personal favorite late night joint is Black Sheep Pub, where I've ordered the chorizo-topped burger on multiple late night excursions and the pulled pork sliders on another. They keep the kitchen open until around 11:45pm every day of the week, allowing you to stumble in 'round 11pm to order up some grub. And you still have four more hours to drink! 

On 5th Ave there's Der Kommissar & their tasty sausages, which are available until around 11pm-midnight (depending on how the night’s going) every day of the week. At the moment, they're my favorite new late night locale.

LATE NIGHT PLACE FOR... SPORTS BUFFS:

If you enjoy being surrounded by a bazillion flat screen TVs showing various sporting events, 200 Fifth has pretty good wings, burgers, pasta and whatnot until 1am from Sunday to Wednesday, 2am on Thursday and 3am on the weekends. When I'm out past midnight & need actual sustenance, this is usually my choice.

LATE NIGHT MEXICAN:

When I'm in the mood for a lil' late night Mexican, both Mezcal's locations are open until 11pm during the week and midnight on the weekends. If I'm further down 5th Ave there's Tacos Nuevo Mexico, which is open until midnight during the week & 2am on the weekends. Rachel's is open until 1am every day of the week, but I refuse to eat there until they take down that gaudy fucking neon sign. There's also Oaxaca down on 4th Ave, but I've yet to try their tacos & burritos & the such, so I can't vouch for them. They're supposedly good though & are available until midnight during the week & 1am on the weekends.

LATE NIGHT OPTIONS FOR NIGHTS WHEN I PRETEND TO ACTUALLY HAVE MONEY:

Of course, if money was no issue, I'd opt for some late-night skate or a bunch of sushi or some shit at Blue Ribbon or Blue Ribbon Sushi, which are both open until midnight every day of the week, with Blue Ribbon open until 2am on the weekends.

SUPER LATE NIGHT LATE NIGHT JOINTS:

Other than the handful of twenty-four hour diners (Whassup, Daisy's!)  sprinkled thoughout Park Slope, the clear winner in the hood as far as lateness is Sidecar, who serves their take on New American fare until 4am seven days a week. I hear their Buttermilk Fried Chicken is badass but their menu’s slightly pricey & as I mentioned, I'm usually broke or cheap, so I've yet to end up there late night.

LATE NIGHT DESSERTS:

When it comes to late night desserts, The Chocolate Room is open until 11pm during the week and midnight on the weekends. If you feeling like cooling down with some ice cream or an ice cream like product, Tasti D-Lite stays open until midnight every day of the week & Haagen Dazs stays open until 11:30pm. You could go to one of them & support a chain or you could try Scoopz, which is supposedly staying open until 11pm on the weekends.

Lastly, here's some FREE FIPS ADVICE! While Park Slope has a large selection of late night choices, you always have to keep in mind that if you show up to someplace like Benchmark or Applewood at 10:30pm on a Tuesday expecting to have a ribeye or a fancy fish dinner just before the place closes, they may tell you to go fuck yourself.
