Boing Boing is so Punny

image via @Scheidel

Nice work, Boing Boing. Even though a dusty lump of coal sits where my beating heart used to be, you still managed to get a chuckle out of me over this new sign of yours.

Love it when the old neighborhood local business guard embraces a good pun.

Guessing this won out over "Breast in service?"

A FiPS Round-Up of The Best Thing-a-ma-jigs To Haul Your Baby Around In

Photo via www.lostateminor.com

Given the task to find and present the top 5 strollers for you baby wheeling bastards (Damn it, Kerri!), I have learned several things:

  1. Baby stroller names are ridiculously long and complicated
  2. These things are pretty damn expensive
  3. I could totally be a Professional Baby Stroller Namer

Here’s the thing, guys. I know virtually nothing about strollers. I did, however, read a shit ton of stroller reviews that were presumably written by people who own both babies and things with which to carry them around in. Based on my research, here are Amazon's top 5 most popular baby street haulers (in no particular order):

Cool or Not Cool:Tricked-Out Strollers for Your Babes?

Fresh off of last week's kiddie curfew at Greenwood Park post, I thought it would only be apropos to follow up with something as amazing as a man who will pimp out your baby's ride for $250. Let's be honest, I'm surprised it took this long for this kind of service to come along.

According to the Brooklyn Paper, a Canarsie-based inventor by the name of Funk Master Flex Bruce Fraizer will outfit your stroller with such dire necessities as an alarm system, GPS, LED flashing head lights and an iPod docking station. If you want a baby jaccuzzi and bottle mini bar, that will cost extra as part of the premium package add-ons (I made that up... I think).

Cool or Not Cool: Greenwood Park Kicking Babies out at 4PM?

photo by Pearl Gabel via The Daily News

South Slope beer hall Greenwood Park had barely opened its pelleted gates for the first time before bad press in the form of local complaints started rolling in. Residents of the neighborhood accused disorderly bar patrons of pissing in the streets, screwing in cars and leaving the immediate area littered with the post-coital remains. Yet no indiscretion was as heinous as the influx of chillins descending on the place (just check out these Yelp reviews!) The drama even prompted the Gray Lady herself to sound off about the kid friendliness of bars and outdoor drinking spaces.

I have become a regular at Greenwood Park, but because I have never rolled up to the joint before 8PM, the kids-hanging-out-all-over-the-place-thing has never been a problem in my world view. That being said, when I arrived at the bar last Thursday night, I was not surprised upon seeing  a printed sign on the gate that said "NEW FALL CURFEW. NO CHILDREN ALLOWED ON PREMISES AFTER 4PM." Greenwood Park had drawn their little line in the sandbox (also, the bouncer totally snickered at me when I got my ID out at the door -- dick.)

Ribbons, Ipads and Babies: A Park Slope Library Story

 pic from thecelebritystone.com

Hey, remember when the Park Slope branch of the Brooklyn Public Library at 6th Ave and 9th Street was closed for renovations like, 150 years ago? Of course you don't -- it was before you were born. Well, we can all stop collectively holding our breaths because the library is re-opening for business today!  This epic event will include a Bluth-style ribbon-cutting ceremony, with G.O.B. Bluth Marty Markowitz wielding the giant scissors, and a book reading by legendary Brooklyn author Pete Hamill.  Lastly, we also just learned that iPads will be available for the neighborhood bebes at the new and improved location. That's right.

According to DNAinfo, the freshly-renovated digs will be equipped with four iPads for children ranging from 2-8 years-old. Rachel Payne, director of early childhood services for the Brooklyn Public Library, told DNAinfo that the iPad will be loaded with interactive picture book apps that will allow the kids to read and do hands-on activities with classic books like The Cat in the Hat and Harold and the Purple Crayon. This 9th Street location will be the first in the borough to have four of its 75 iPads devoted to very young readers.
