Ozzie's Owner Wants Our Sorry Asses To Name Their New Cafe

Photo via Brooklyn Paper

Remember when we told you guys that Melissa Rapoport, former owner of Ozzie's on 7th Avenue, was going to open a new coffee shop just across the street from her old location? Well YOU can help choose the name of the new joint! Rapoport's running a little contest to see who can come up with the best name for her new café. She's even opened up a gmail account, just so that you can submit your brilliant suggestions (that was totally sarcastic by the way. Your idea will almost certainly suck eggs. But still feel free to send your submission to namemycafe@gmail.com anyway.)

[Cheap Park Slope Eats]: A Burger At Dram Shop

Dram Shop Burger / Photo via NY Serious Eats

You might be able to get a less expensive burger elsewhere in the neighborhood, but as a value proposition, I defy you to do better than the $10 burger at Dram Shop. Their burgers are completely and totally delicious. According to their website's menuthe recipe for their burger is a closely guarded family secret that originated in Dallas, Texas, and has made its way to Park Slope. Eat just one of those burgers, and you're going to be wondering what it would take to marry into that family.

Park Slope Woefully Underrepresented on Stupid Dive Bar List

Mission Dolores / Photo via www.thrillist.com

Complex recently made a list of the fifty best dive bars in New York City. They included O'Connors, which was fairly high on the list at number 16. It was also the only Park Slope bar that made the cut. From where I'm sitting, anyone who tries to make a list of the fifty best dive bars in New York City is begging for an argument. So here are my top choices for Slope bars that shouldn't have been overlooked:

1. MISSION DOLORES

I'll concede that Mission Dolores might be too hep to qualify as a true dive bar. There's a difference between a dive bar and a dive-y bar. Mission Dolores might not be a dive, but it is dive-y, and they have pin-ball machines, which are essential, but remarkably hard to find in Park Slope. So it makes my list, even if it's too new and clean to be a true dive bar.

[My Favorite Park Slope...]: Monday Night Meal

After spending the first day of the work week dealing with annoying cow-orkers (hyphenation intentional), the last thing you wanna do is try to figure out a dinner plan.

Fortunately, we have the delicious Austrian food at Cafe Steinhof. Cafe Steinhof gives their chef the night off on Mondays, and presents a limited menu that's got some delicious bargains.  There are a handful of starters, but the real deals are the entrees.  For $7 you get either gulash (that's how they spell it...not "goulash", FYI), trout or beans and kielbasa.  The gulash is terrific and spicy with hot paprika, but my personal fave is...wait for it...wait for it...

[FiPS Cares]: Dining Out For Irene!

Robicelli's Cupcakes / Via Cupcakes Take the Cake

It's pissing cats and dogs in Brooklyn again. And as annoying as that is for those of us who live here, it's gotta' be a gazillion times more upsetting to the folks upstate who grow our food.

Produce from local CSA groups, including the Park Slope CSA and the Windsor Terrace/Kensington CSA, comes from the farms upstate that were hit hard by Irene. The Windsor Terrace CSA reports:
