[FIPS Was There...] Ask Me Another at The Bell House

Photo credit: Josh Rogosin/NPRLast Monday night, I ventured on down to the Bell House to check out Ask me Another, a live trivia/word puzzle contest that airs on NPR. You probably don't remember this now, but last Monday night was unbearably hot, and unfortunately, the air conditioning at The Bell House was not working. The bar area was fine, but once you made it back to the crowded performance space, the air was funkier than a Bikram yoga studio. Many brave souls actually sat shoulder to shoulder in the seats provided for the audience, but I needed to hang back by the doors -- and the fans.

New Book Pokes Fun at Park Slope-ish-ness

When I was asked to review Matthew Goldenberg’s book “A is For Artisanal: An Alphabet Book for the Hip, Modern Baby,” I was all, “GROAN...," with a little "Fuck that shiz" thrown in. But, as I immersed myself in my assigned evening reading, I was happily surprised, amused even.

Five Commandments for Chilling in Prospect Park

Image via file-magazine.comNothing typifies Brooklyn summers quite like recreation in Prospect Park. Picnics and sunbathers cover the grassy knoll from dawn till dusk. Or that mom that lets her kid pet everyone’s dog for hours. We've covered the rules Prospect Park Alliance sets out for those who choose to picnic/BBQ, but with July 4th nearly upon us, here are some unofficial commandments for sharing our most glorious public space:

Cool New Water Station in Prospect Park

Check out this cool new spot to grab a drink and/or refill your water bottle in Prospect Park! A FIPS tipster spotted this station off if Center Drive near the Nethermead, and said the pressure was great for refilling a large water bottle. No more trying to awkwardly tilt your bottle at one of those low pressure water fountains. Hope we get more of these around the park.

Hold Onto Your Lady Parts...We're Getting Our Very Own "Power Center"!!!

Image via Racked.com

It’s now officially confirmed that BK gals won’t have to leave the borough to get their beauty fix, according to Racked.com. The first Brooklyn Sephora outpost will be housed in the Municipal Building downtown, and that’s not all ladies...

Sephora will allegedly be "the anchor for what is becoming a women's power center” in downtown Brooklyn.

Wait, what?

What the hell is a women’s power center? Isn’t that just called a mall?
