Hey, everybody! Let's all raise money to help feral cats and stray dogs!

Okay, so there's this little black cat that's taken up residence in the bushes right in front of my house, and it is driving my dogs bat-shit fucking crazy.  Seriously.  Our dogs will be sitting near the window, enjoying the view and minding their own business, when suddenly this little black head pops out of the bushes like a periscope, and immediately, they all start screaming, barking and howling like they've been set on fire or something.

So, I found out about this organization called Brooklyn Animal Action.  They're a really terrific group that aims to help homeless animals, by either adopting them to good homes, or (in the case of feral felines), by operating a trap-neuter-return ("TNR") program.

I've already got my trap, actually.  You can buy them on Amazon.  But once I trap my first hissing ball of fur, what am I gonna do about it? Huh? What? WHAT!?!

Park Slope's Bill de Blasio wins primary in NYC mayoral race

Photo credit: Todd Heisler/New York TimesThough the official count won't be in for days, and with a chance there may still be a runoff, Bill de Blasio celebrated his victory last night as the Democratic candidate for mayor of New York City. Partying down at the Bell House, Mr. Blasio said:

“We know that New York City is the greatest city on earth, and not simply because of our economic might, or our stunning skyline, or our vibrant culture,” he said, “but because we are a city that leads the nation, that leads the world, in remembering that we are bigger, we are stronger, we are better as a city when we make sure that everyone has a shot.”

[What You Should Order At...] 67 Burger

I am ever in search of an amazing burger, and with the burger joint boom of the past few years, there hasn’t been a shortage of places to try.  My most recent search led me to 67 Burger.  Don’t let the name fool you.  There are not 67 Burgers to choose from.  There are infinite combinations.  I defy you to count them all—we polled our favorite mathematician and his brain exploded.

In an effort to be fully transparent, I must tell you that I’m a vegetarian.  I know, I know—you’re thinking that I’m a shit-faced posing hipster, and you’re welcome to your opinion, but I need you to know that I’ll still be running marathons while your meat-laden asses continue to dishonor the sacred cow at the Pearly Gates Café and Gastropub…no offense.  That said—here’s my review:

Enter a lottery to pitch a tent in Prospect Park

Image via parkslopestoop.comSeptember 21st is the last day of summer, but the fun doesn't have to end. That night, Prospect Park will be open for camping. This special event, run by Urban Park Rangers, is being advertised as "family friendly," so that rules out murdering teenagers while they fuck or even eating mushrooms and running naked around the more wooded areas.

Methodist Hospital Is Planning to Expand...

Photo of 1997 Expansion by Robert Spencer via Daily News

...And some people aren't all that thrilled about it. You may remember back in May when I lauded Methodist's emergency room after slicing some thumb in my mandolin accident. And then again most of you probably don't. Regardless it has become my duty to remind you that Methodist Hospital has had plans to expand its facilities in the hood. Now a group called Preserve Park Slope is heading a campaign to block the expansion citing such maladies as an increase in traffic, noise, the pain of a long-term construction project and the demolition of historic buildings in the area as reasons why Slopers should be fighting the man.
