[What You Should Order At...] 67 Burger
I am ever in search of an amazing burger, and with the burger joint boom of the past few years, there hasn’t been a shortage of places to try. My most recent search led me to 67 Burger. Don’t let the name fool you. There are not 67 Burgers to choose from. There are infinite combinations. I defy you to count them all—we polled our favorite mathematician and his brain exploded.
In an effort to be fully transparent, I must tell you that I’m a vegetarian. I know, I know—you’re thinking that I’m a shit-faced posing hipster, and you’re welcome to your opinion, but I need you to know that I’ll still be running marathons while your meat-laden asses continue to dishonor the sacred cow at the Pearly Gates Café and Gastropub…no offense. That said—here’s my review:
67 Burger has been in operation at 234 Flatbush Ave. at Bergen Street for two years. They recently shut down for a couple days to refresh the appearance and really make it Brooklyn-centric. There’s a very laid back vibe punctuated by a commissioned graffiti mural spanning one wall, with Brooklyn memorabilia and art on the opposing wall.
The service. My wife, Jess, and I decided to make it an impromptu date night and were not disappointed by any aspects of our experience. We were greeted like regulars by the staff and introduced to the manager, Daphne, once I flashed my impressive press creds. Daphne could not have been more genuine in the pride she exhibits in her business, or more accommodating in the time taken to thoroughly explain the menu and offer suggestions. The counter staff was quick and efficient and hooked us up with two fresh pints on the spot.
The food. Get the Oaxaca! (pronounced Wa-Ha-Kah—don’t pretend like you knew, you didn’t!) It’s a beast topped with avocado, chipotle mayo and cheddar—oh my! I chose to accompany this perfection with the seasoned curlies. Yep, do it! Jess hopped on the Greek salad, substituting the standard chicken for tofu. The salad was huge, fresh and delicious. If you’re feeling adventurous and don’t mind a possible turf war in your belly, you should try the Beer Shake. We were given a sample and it was the best-bad decision dessert I’ve ever tried.
The conclusion. If you haven’t already tried 67 Burger you should head on over. There’s something for everyone. It’s not a luxurious date spot, so don’t expect to woo your guy or gal. Instead, expect to throw down with some serious food and drink until you’re ready to pop.
Have you been there? What's your favorite combo?
