Whassup: A Whole New Year Edition

Have you got your walk-of-shame outfit and hangover cures all lined up? Good, you're set for the New Year. In the meantime, enjoy all the fun to be had in the peri-New-Year's period with Whassup: A Whole New Year Edition:

* Friday, Dec. 30: DJs His N Hers, Bell House: Bummed you didn't nab tix in time for the sold out Ted Leo and the Pharmacists show? Well, drag your hipster ears down to the Bell House anyway, where the Brooklyn-based DJs His N Hers will be spinning discs of music nerddom in the front room while Leo rocks the back stage. Maybe you'll find a scalper. At the very least, you'll likely expand your musical knowledge. 9:30pm, FREE.

* Saturday, Dec. 31: Check out our guide to NEW YEAR'S happenings in the Slope!

* Monday, Jan. 1: Moth StorySLAM, Southpaw: Here, I'll make your New Year's resolutions easy: resolve to take part in NYC's burgeoning everyman storytelling scene. You can accomplish it today by hitting up the big-name series, the Moth, in its Southpaw incarnation. There. Done. Now there's no need to buy a gym membership or donate to charity. You're welcome. 7:30pm Doors, $8.

* Wednesday, Jan. 4: 50 First Jokes, Bell House: Here's another one of those simple, but brilliant Brooklyn event concepts -- hear the first new jokes of the year from 50 comedians. This is the sixth time out for the annual comedic showcase. With so many chances, something's bound to stick in your funny area and have you snorting out some Sixpoint. 7:30pm Doors, $10 DOS.

* Thursday, Jan. 5: Cartoons and Tunes, Union Hall: Keep your most demanding head organs satisfied with eye-pleasuring cartoons accompanied by ear-caressing melodies at the Second Annual Music and Cartoon show. Slide shows of work by graphic novelists, like Jason Little and his "bubblegum noir," flicker along with live sets from three bands, including the indie-pop of Brooklyn's Overlord.
