What You Should Order At...Blueprint (Cocktail Edition!)

WHAT YOU SHOULD ORDER AT... is a recurring column designed in kind for your opinionated asses and our lazy asses.  We're going to pick one Park Slope resto a week and recommend our favorite dish at each.  Are we right?  Are we wrong?  YOU KNOW YOU WANNA WEIGH IN.  

The cocktail bars keep popping up in the Slope but by far my personal favorite is still always Blueprint. Consistently excellent libations, delicious snacks, and an incredible staff complete with hot Aussie bartender (Hi Andy!).

I’ve have ashamedly tried 80% of the cocktails on the Blueprint menu, so I thought I’d share a couple favorite selections with you that are sure to please even the most discerning of palates.

The Crab Spot On Union Street Opens Today

Holy crab (sorry.)

For all of you seafood lovers in the nabe, a new crab place opens today at 833 Union, between 6th/7th Avenues. According to The Crab Spot's Twitter page, they'll be open starting at 2PM, and will serve a combo of crab dishes and seafood pots, like the Crab Royale ($34.99), a combo of dungeness crab, snow crab and king crab served with red potatoes and corn on the cob, with the option of having the dish prepared in the following ways: simply steamed, garlic olive oil, old bay, chipotle bbq, spicy boiled or grilled.

FiPS Round-Up: Where to Eat Out On Christmas!

Since we all know what a lousy cook you are, we don't want you to starve to death over the holidays.  So, we rounded up a bunch of restaurants that are open on Christmas Eve and/or Christmas Day, just so you'd know where to eat.  While lots of places in the neighborhood -- Al di la, Sidecar, Applewood, Talde and Thistle Hill Tavern, to name a few -- are closed both days, it is possible to get a meal in a sit-down restaurant on December 24 or 25. 

Open both December 24 and 25: 

AOC Bistro  If you're desperate for French food on Christmas, or if you're just too lazy to kill yourself, you can go to AOC on either Christmas Eve or Christmas Day. 

Kiku Asian Bistro  Accepting reservations on Open Table.  Eat here, then call your mom and tell her you had sushi for Christmas dinner.  It'll totally piss her off.

Kinara  Open seven days, including Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.  Hindus don't care about the sweet little baby jeebus in a manger, I guess.

The Salads Are Coming! The Salads Are Coming!

 

FiPS takes credit for a lot of things: the discovery of the Higgs Boson, the existence of corgis, the release of the Mitt Romney's secret footage (and this video, too), etc. Some things we probably shouldn't -- though David Corn totally is our Coop spy. But Just Salad taking up residence in Park Slope? That one's alllllll us, yo.

We told you last week that Just Salad was coming into Seventh Avenue space for the former, much-hated Parkslope Eatery. When the place finally tanked in June (there is a god?) we cried out, Hark! Salad cometh?! and our prayers have been answerd...answeredth!

Pork Slope Extends Weekend Operating Hours

5th Avenue's Pork Slope -- or Park Slope's greatest tribute to Patrick Swayze and his 1989 bad-ass mullet -- has extended their weekend hours of operation. The bar's hours have been extended from 12pm – 4am on Saturdays and Sundays, with the kitchen serving the full menu from 12pm – 2am. 

I don't know of too many places in the neighborhood that serve food until 2AM, so if you're out and about and looking for a tasty late-night snack, I recommend dropping in and sampling one of Dale's simple, yet tasty burgers ($6.50).
