BREAKING: Long Tan Is Closing

Ok, so first Foreign Dude sends me the following text:

"Long Tan is CLOSING on Thursday! Their lease is up and the owners only told the staff YESTERDAY."

Then I got this note from FIPS reader Vince:

"I dunno how you feel about Long Tan but me and my girl love it, and according to our waiter (who was getting drunk and spilling the beans) Long Tan's last day is Thursday. Which is super sad because it's one of the few even decent places to get late night food and beverages here in the Slope. We're slightly depressed about the whole thing."

SONOFABITCH. So, it pretty much sounds like Long Tan is closing on Thursday.

I'm off to go drown my sorrows in a glorious new ep of Dexter...you ppl are on your own.

UPDATE: Ok, more deets from Foreign Dude. Apparently, the Long Tan owners are RE-OPENING the bar space in a couple of weeks under a different name (and with a different staff), while someone else takes over the restaurant portion of the space. He had no idea who that someone else was, but it seems like that someone else has already leased it. Long Tan 2.0 bar will allegedly NOT be serving food. And while the staff apparently knew that the lease *was* coming up and that the restaurant would be closing, they had no idea it would be in less than a week. So yeah...they seemed a little peeved.

UPDATE TO THE UPDATE (from one of the owners of Long Tan): "Long Tan is closing but the date has not been set...still finalizing the details .perhaps next week ....
The bar will be closing at the same time for a complete renovation and will re-open in a few months as a cocktail /wine bar serving small dishes utilizing locally sourced ingredients. So please stop by to say good bye to long tan and its staff while you can. and thank you for a great 10 years."

Ozzies Closed By Health Dept?

That's what ppl were emailing me about all day yesterday and today while I was busy Rosh Hashanah-ing it up. Even when I try to be a good Jew, it never works.

"FYI, Ozzies on 5th ave just got shut down by the health dept. The baristas were standing by the door so I felt that taking a pic would be a bit crude."

Not sure if that shit is open again already or not, but even if its not, TGIF! (L'shana Tova!)

Bussaco Is Closed

Remember when there were rumors about Jen Aniston and Brad Pitt breaking, up and shit started appearing in US Weekly? But still we were all like "naw....it can't be true!?" And then it *was* true and you were all like: I TOLD YOU SO! WHY DIDN'T YOU LISTEN TO ME??

Right, so as of Friday night, Bussaco is closed. Which is approx 5 mos after the "Bussaco is closing" rumors began (which is actually pretty impressive).

Not sure what went wrong there, but that place was pretty much always empty. I live approx 1 block away and I had only been there once....considering how fucking lazy I am, that's pretty telling. I hope another fab restaurant gets in there pronto, b/c it really is a great space.

BREAKING: Mack's 140 = DUNZO?

image via MetromixHot off the presses, we just received the following tip from an anon FIPS tipster...a FIPSTER about Mack's 140 on 7th Ave:

Under the cloak of night the asshole owner Tony, who told no one what the deal was, not even his staff, dragged all the food and liquor out. He bailed on the joint after it wasn't living up to his expectations.  Not that they should have been that high given the space was so sterile and blah, nor did he give a crap about any customers. I truly did see him berate customers and staff alike. The place has been locked up since Monday with no signs or explanations.  Apparently he brought in partners who are taking over the joint and reworking it into a high end Italian restaurant though he still will have a stake in it. Here we go again. What a said missed opportunity for a much needed real bar on the North End of 7th Ave.

Well, well, well. Gotta confess: I checked that place out twice and thought it was insanely mediocre both times. And I agree re: the ambience...there was none.

Anyone else have scoop?

WHASSUP [Eat This, Drink That Edition]

* A new bar is opening up in the old Cattyshack space (see above): Mission Dolores. This place is a collab between Mike and Ben Wiley of Bar Great Henry, and it should be open in a couple of weeks-ish (Brownstoner).

*Bar Reis's sandwich shop experiment, Reis 100, has been closed (does mean that you now can't get those sandy at Bar Reis?? Cause that would BLOW). Anyway, its going to be replaced with an Italian, small plates concept restaurant which will focus on affordable, local fare (ZagatBuzz).

*There is apparently a new bagel shop opening on 7th Ave, a whole block away from La Bagel Delight. At the moment, I'm totally confused about this bullshit, as that is like the LAST FUCKING thing we need here (hello future business owners, if you are looking for ideas, people, read our "Coming Soon to Park Slope" post).

*Some mom made a list of "baby friendly" bars to go to with your offspring. Surprise, surprise, Union Hall is on the list. The post mentions their rule that strollers are not allowed, but newsflash Union Hall: I was there a couple of Fridays ago and that place was OVER-fucking-run with strollers. So no one is paying attensh to that one (NY Post).

*The owners of Hotel Le Bleu realized that their rooftop bar sucked...probably after the neighbors started a campaign to get the place shut down due to all the annoying noise. So they are now going to replace it with a rooftop Italian restaurant. Wow, do we all remember this unforgettable quote from the Brooklyn Paper only last year about this "gamechanging" event?: “Everything that you thought was, now isn’t. Everything that you wish could have been, has now become.” Yes, indeed (The Brooklyn Paper).
