Anyone Wanna Start Taking Bets About When Bussaco Is Gonna Close?

photo: Brownstoner

R'uh R'oh. This in from Eater:

"Since her exit of three months, sales have plummeted to under a third when Katy [Sparks] was present. Now employees have received bouncing checks for the past four weeks. One waitress was held captive by a Park Slope Check Casher when trying to cash a paycheck last week. The check Casher was screaming that the restaurant owed him “much money”. The head chef and sous chef both walked out, understandably after not being paid for some time."

I mostly just walk by this place on my way to brunch at Scottadito ($14.99 for brunch AND unlimited mimosas!), but bouncing checks on your employees?! That shit is so not cool.

MATTER IS CLOSING [ANOTHER ONE BITES THE DUST]

A sign on their door reads:

Dear Friends of Matter,

After six years here we have decided to close up shop in Park Slope to focus more of our energy on developing the Matter Made collection. Our Manhattan location will remain open and there are future plans for an expansion to include many of the great products you've come to love from our store.

Our entire Brooklyn inventory is now on sale for 15 - 90% off. Check back often as discounts will increase leading up to our closing at the end of March.

There are no words to express the deep gratitude we have for your loyalty and patronage over the years.

Thank you and we look forward to seeing you in Manhattan.

Son of a bitch! I loved this friggin store!

DID 491 SIX WINE BAR BITE THE DUST BEFORE OPENING?

Yes, South Slope already has plenty of bars. But who wouldn’t have been excited at the prospect of the 491 Six wine bar (6th Ave., between 12th and 13th), which made its coming known with a small typewritten note in the window and LOTS of empty bottles?

OK, in all honesty, anything would be an improvement over the space’s previous tenant, a printing shop that looked like a cross between a meth lab and that bike shop where Dudley got molested on Diff’rent Strokes. But look, I’m a wine dude, and I want a wine bar 50 feet from my doorstep much the way Roman Polanski wants a catholic girls’ junior high school to open next to his house. Right, I’m done with the illegal-sex-act jokes…for now.

Miracle Grill Closing?

Hells to the yeah, according to OTBKB:

"I just heard from a very reliable source that Miracle Grill, the Tex-Mex restaurant on Seventh Avenue and 3rd Street, will be closing. Sunday is their last day. My source was  told by an employee at the restaurant."

Also, HOLY SHIT!: Bobby Flay was the original chef there??

Anyway.

I was always kinda meh about Miracle, though it def sucks balls if their shuttering is recesh related.

That's a pretty hot piece of real estate ass they've got though on that corner...if this shit is true, wonder who will take it over next?

'You Say Goodbye, And I Say Hello'

(photo via Brownstoner)

Hello to:

*Laytner's Linen & Home - opening up on Union Street between 6th and 7th ave's. They will allegedly be selling expensive sheets, expensive towels and all sorts of other expensive shit that you don't yet know you want, but SOON WILL. Yay! I'll finally have something to do while I wait for late, irresponsible zipcar assholes who can never seem to bring my fucking "Winny" back to the garage on Union on time. (Brownstoner)

*Hog Mountain - no siree, that was not a typo, folks! Hog Mountain is a new dude store for manly, man dudes that opened up on 5th Ave and Sackett. They sell clothing, outerwear, toiletries, and some hardware. 68 fans on Facebook can't be wrong, so I would go man up and check it out pronto. (Brownstoner)

*Provini - we tried it. It's DELICIOUS. <3. It's from the Bar Toto/Bar Tano crew and is on 8th ave and 13thish. Thoughtful, fresh Italian food with a killer beer/wine list. (Brooklynian)

*El Jalapeno - also tried it...also pretty friggin good. If these mofos can steer clear of the passive/agressive signage, this shit might work. (FIPS)

*Little Buddy Biscuit Company - is on 5th avenue across from Eagle Provisions. And despite some confusion, its *not* a dog bakery and its *not* just a biscuit shop (which is what I originally thought). It's a regular ole bakery that sells cookies and scones and all sorts of other delicious, fattening shit. I haven't been there yet, but its ON my list. (Brooklyn Food Blog)

Goodbye to:

*Juniors - no, they aren't closing, and yes they have one of the best turkey reuben's I've ever had, but they are dead to me now. (Daily News and FIPS)
