MAYBE I WON'T GET HIT/KILLED BY THE SUBWAY AFTER ALL?

Have you guys seen these "Don't be a statistic" posters from the MTA?? I assume these are supposed to be a sobering deterrent for those of you that like to stand just a leetle to close to the tracks while teetering on the edge of fine city's subway platforms.

But for me--someone whose day is constantly marked with a string of inter-connected fantasies regarding the various ways I will likely be killed (fall down an elevator shaft, hit by a cab, pushed out on to the subway tracks by a crazy stranger)--I kind of feel a bit relieved.

I mean, let's break it down:

Is the MTA Responsible For Our Littering? (No.)

Man, do New Yorkers love to blame the MTA for everything.

Recently, the Brooklyn Paper reported that, in an effort to keep Master Splinter and his rat friends at bay, the MTA removed trash cans from the 7th ave. and 9th Street F/G subway station. Following this Great Trash Can Exodus, straphangers are now reportedly hanging on to their trash as they exit the subway station, at which time they proceed to toss that shit on the sidewalk or street.

And who's at the center of blame for this? The MTA.

Well Done, People: We've Saved the G Train Extension!

Photo via Village VoiceDespite threats by the MTA that the G train extension through Park Slope and Kensington was totally temporary, the relentless pushback of New York City straphangers has finally paid off.

On Monday, sources at the MTA confirmed that the five G train stops with questionable fates -- 4th Avenue-Ninth Street, 7th Avenue, Prospect Park-15th Street, Fort Hamilton Parkway and Church Avenue -- are going nowhere.

WE DID IT, YOU GUYS!

Screw IKEA. Deck out your Park Slope abode MTA-style

Have you ever sat on one of those wooden benches in the subway and thought, “Damn, this would look sweet in my living room?"

You know you have.  And now, thanks to the MTA, you can adorn you place with all sorts of gently-worn merchandise, such as a genuine 10-ft long bench ($650).  Just imagine the 30-year history of one of those beasts.  How many people have slept on it?  Died on it?  Puked, pissed, fornicated, crapped and dove to their death from it?

4th Ave/9th Street Station Open For the First Time Since the 70's

There is one place in Park Slope where I live in constant fear of getting mowed down by a fast-moving car: 4th Avenue. Good God do I fear 4th Avenue. Every time I descend 5th Ave headed for the F or G train, I'm forced to cross six lanes of hellish traffic to get to the station. That is, until last Thursday came along. Finally -- FINALLY -- after over forty years, the eastern entrance to the F/G train station at 4th and 9th Street has been reopened and is now available for public use.
