4th Ave/9th Street Station Open For the First Time Since the 70's

There is one place in Park Slope where I live in constant fear of getting mowed down by a fast-moving car: 4th Avenue. Good God do I fear 4th Avenue. Every time I descend 5th Ave headed for the F or G train, I'm forced to cross six lanes of hellish traffic to get to the station. That is, until last Thursday came along. Finally -- FINALLY -- after over forty years, the eastern entrance to the F/G train station at 4th and 9th Street has been reopened and is now available for public use.
"This is the first step. This is the first step in the transformation of 4th Avenue," Brooklyn Prez Marty Markowitz announced during the unveiling, which is part of the larger Culver Viaduct Rehabilitation Project. We're no stranger to Marty's big dreams for 4th Avenue. In addition to planting a shit ton of trees, Marty's desires for a better 4th Ave also included making it safer for those who access it. Great Scott, Marty. You may have actually done something good for Brooklyn.
Lastly, the renovated station is equipped with new floors, lights and turnstiles, officially making it the cleanest subway station in all of New York City. I dare you to lick something inside the station. I double dog dare you.
