Wafels & Dinges to La Bagel Delight: 'We Lurv You!'

What can I say? After the shitshow that was the Bachelor finale last night, I have true love on my brain. And honestly, this is like the sweetest fucking thing I've ever seen. I'm serious, people: we could all learn a thing or two about kindness from our fave waffle pusher: Wafels & Dinges. Behold (from their blog):

"Every Saturday we park near LA Bagel Delight in Park Slope. And since we sell waffles and they sell bagels, well, you get the picture...there could be some friction.

Anyone Wanna Start Taking Bets About When Bussaco Is Gonna Close?

photo: Brownstoner

R'uh R'oh. This in from Eater:

"Since her exit of three months, sales have plummeted to under a third when Katy [Sparks] was present. Now employees have received bouncing checks for the past four weeks. One waitress was held captive by a Park Slope Check Casher when trying to cash a paycheck last week. The check Casher was screaming that the restaurant owed him “much money”. The head chef and sous chef both walked out, understandably after not being paid for some time."

I mostly just walk by this place on my way to brunch at Scottadito ($14.99 for brunch AND unlimited mimosas!), but bouncing checks on your employees?! That shit is so not cool.

Fried Robicelli's Cupcakes...In Your MOUTHS [Cupcakegate 2K10: The Resolution]

photo: Brooklyn Paper

Remember a few weeks back when we all got excited as hell to go eat fried Robicelli cupcakes at the Chip Shop? And then we all went to the Chip Shop and they were like "huh??" And then we blogged about it, and instead of saying they were the sorry, the Chip Shop kinda lied and said "we have no idea what you are talking about, so this was probably some publicity stunt." And then we went back to hating the shit out of the "predatory" Chip Shop again, and suggesting you do the same?

Yeah, well none of that changes the fact that Park Slope STILL has not had their chance to try DELICIOUS, DEEP FRIED ROBICELLI CUPCAKES!

But on Friday, March 5, all that changes!

Secret Restaurant Behind Loki Lounge?

photo: Brownstoner

Ok, this is just weird. Cause yeah: I love Park Slope, but also its not nearly cool enough around here for secret restaurants-n-shit. Though, apparently that hasn't stopped Loki Lounge. According to some folks on Brooklynian, the Loki Lounge has opened a new hush hush place behind their current restaurant. From urbandog25:

"Place is called Benchmark - saw the menu outside - they have no sign just a lectern with the menu on 2nd st - looked kinda like a Smith St restaurant circa '99 - foie gras, free range stuff, etc... not that such a menu is bad (if cooked right), just surprising given the location.

They are either well funded and going for a very soft opening to work out the kinks - or they are idiots and will be out of business in a few months - because the place has no press is impossible to find and is often the beaten path - I really hope Zebra's review is accurate and the owner has the funds to build up a business.
"

Well, you gotta give Loki Lounge props for an interesting approach. In a climate where non-secret restaurants are going out of business left and right, maybe the key to success is not telling anyone about your place, and then completely hiding its location? That shit is just crazy enough to potentially work.

[True confessions: I've never even stepped foot in Loki Lounge, mostly because I find the font they chose for their awning so horribbly offensive to my eyes, its never occured to me to go near the place. But most people on Yelp seem to dig it, and that back patio does look pretty fab].

Another Reason to Leave/Love Park Slope [Red Hook]

...Because going to very nearby Red Hook is like getting out of town for the day.

The Harbor alone is worth the trip—the incredible beauty and peace of just hanging by the Pier, watching the tugs, listening to the clanging of the buoy, Lady Liberty majestically hanging there with you, as you ponder why the hell you don’t live HERE (because there’s  no mass fucking transit) instead of where you DO live.
