Do You Wanna Tell The Propsect Park Bike Lane Haters to Go Fuck Themselves?

Free t-shirts, cupcakes and biking in the park? Don't mind if I do.

Come on down to Prospect Park this Sunday for the “We Ride the Lanes” group bike ride and rep the PPW bike lane. Don’t have a bike? No problem; you can just walk your happy ass down the bike lane and enjoy the scenery! Not only that, but they’re giving away some kick ass t-shirts at the start (don’t lie, you love free t-shirts, everyone does) and Blue Sky Bakery and Bark will be giving out some delicious grub at the end.

Is your bike a piece of garbage and you’re afraid it’s on its last leg? Perfect! Bicycle Habitat and Ride Brooklyn will be there providing free bike safety inspections.

Terrible, haunting fear of being trampled by dozens of careless cyclists? No worries, Transportation Alternatives will also be there, solely for your protection’s sake (probably also for the free food).

Come put on a t-shirt, ride your bike and eat some hot dogs and cupcakes. It’s gonna be sweet.

Profiles In Courage: Joe Nocella of 718 Cyclery

Gadzooks, Joe Nocella is a busy dude. An architect by day, custom bike shop owner after hours, little league and football coach, teacher at Pratt... I'm exhausted just typing this out. Oh, and he has two dogs, two rugrats, two cats, and one wife.

Nocella's South Slope shop, 718 Cyclery, is getting all kinds of accolades for its friendly, collaborative bike-building process.

Bike Wars-The Evil NBBL Strikes Back

Well FIPSters, the shit has officially hit the fan.

Our friends at Neighbors for (no more) Better Bike Lanes and their tardy allies the Seniors for Safety have officially bitch slapped the DOT with a classy lawsuit. And since I am officially the FIPS Bike Wars correspondent, it is my mission to report on this crucial new stage in the battle for Prospect Park West.

Not to bore those who have all the deets on this issue but if you're showing up late to the game you can catch up on how this monstrosity unfolds here:

Or here.

Or here.

And then there's here. Oh and don't forget about here.

PPW Bike Lane: This Shit Will NEVER Go Away

image via Bike Blog NYCMajor developments in Park Slope's own Gaza Strip may spell relief for battle weary residents as one of the thoroughfare's most sizzling debates could be coming to a close. There has been a promising new development in the fight over that bastardly bike lane or as I call it, my favorite bloody horse corpse.

According to transportationnation.org Neighbors for Better Bike Lanes has teamed up with Seniors for Safety to issue support for a moratorium.

Wow cool guys, a compromise, this is very mature!

And hats off to Christine Quinn and the City Council for passing those 3 bills that made you so happy. A couple of things though: first, Seniors for Safety is hands down a much cooler name than Neighbors for Better Bike Lanes so NBBL take a nod from those sassy seniors and consider something catchier. Secondly, press releases shouldn't be that long. EVER. We get it. You tried to get data from the DOT and when they gave it to you it didn't say what you wanted it to. You've said that like 10,000 times. I mean we can sum up the union standoffs in Wisconson in fewer words.

THE PROSPECT PARK BIKE LANE WILL KILL YOU! Or Whatever!

A couple of things that amaze me:

1) Salmon return to the place of their birth to die.

2) CBS 2 News reporter Marcia Kramer seems to get younger as the years go by.

3) And… I’m writing, once again, about this GODDAMNNED BIKE LANE on Prospect Park West.

Ok so here’s the shovel full of cow shit I have for you this week: apparently people are still taking video footage of the PPW bike lane (because it’s not psychotic enough for a bike lane to take up this much of your headspace), and after weeks of fishing, they F-I-N-A-L-L-Y caught a big mother fuckin’ fish: an ambulance using the controversial bike lane to avoid a traffic jam!

Annnnnd commence Neighbors for Better Bike Lanes switching their cry baby bullshit into high gear. GO.
