The Revenge of the Bike Lanes

Nearly a year ago, that bullshit organization Neighbors for Better Bike Lanes vowed they'd sue again after their lawsuit to have the PPW Bike Lane Removed was thrown out of court. Wahhhwahh. Then the cry babies claimed the law suit was thrown out of court in error. I hate to break it to the NBBL-ers, but based on those new cement medians on Prospect Park West, I don't think the lane is going anywhere. In fact, these days even more lanes are popping up in the neighborhood.

After a joint meeting of Community Boards 6 & 7 last Thursday night, it was announced that 3 new bike lanes would become a reality for bikers: One on 14th street from 3rd Avenue to Prospect Park West, another on 15th street, and a third that will connect through Bartel-Pritchard Square.

The Cost of Fighting a Single Bike Lane is Comically Expensive

In Park Slope's most recent news of an absolutely ridiculous nature, the fight to keep the Prospect Park West bike lane from being obliterated has cost the city over $140,000 -- that's right, ONE HUNDRED AND FORTY THOUSAND DOLLARS, PPL --  and because the Neighbors for Better Bike Lanes have filed what feels like their 100th lawsuit against the lane, that cost is expected to rise.

Once again using the their trademark trickery, the Neighbors for Better Bike Lanes are causing drama over the Prospect Park West bike lane. At the moment, they're claiming that the judge who dismissed their intitial lawsuit to remove the beloved bike lane on Prospect Park West has "committed errors," and that the ruling "should be reversed."

NBBL Gloats About Bike Lane Scrap, while I 8-Ball Their Asses

As you may have read in my last PPW West Bike Lane post, The Department of Transportation took blame for the scrapping of the Plaza Street bike lane, explaining that "the agency will not install the new lane this year due to 'the scope' of a bigger Grand Army Plaza project, which includes a new stop light and an expansion of the farmer’s market area."

But now, Neighbors for Better Bullshit Bike Lanes is actually taking credit for the DOT's scrap of the project. The two-way lane was going to be part of a complete overhaul to Grand Army Plaza and an essential connector to the hotly-contested PPW bike lanes.  FIPS reader Doug made us aware of this Daily News article concerning the Plaza Street scrap.
