Top Ten Ways to "go it alone" in Park Slope

Lest anyone think this is going to be one of those underhandedly positive "tips for singles" articles (my favorite is here - like I needed to be told not to buy a pound of fresh basil when I was single) or some sort of Oprah-esque treatise on the value of "me time" don't worry, it won't be. This is entirely about the pure, unadulterated, (sometimes misanthropic) joy of spending time by oneself. With that, here are my 10 favorite things to do solo in the Slope...

#10 - Go to a diner and read the paper. My diner of choice is the Park Cafe on 7th Ave at Union - mainly because I've never waited for a table but also because they have more kinds of pancakes than anywhere else I've been in the 'nabe.

#9 - Drink Alone Sometimes you want to go where no one knows your name, or talks to you, or even looks directly at you. O'Connors is my favorite place to have a drink alone. It's dive-y, cheap and usually quiet. The experience is downright meditative.

There Is No 'Sandwich Revolution' In Park Slope

NY Mag's Cheap Eats issue just came out and amongst all of the suggestions of fab, delicious cheap shit to eat, they have this break-out chart of the best turkey sandwiches in the city. There are six sandwiches on the list, and shockingly, four of them come from Brooklyn--that's like 66.9% of the list! Only, BREAKING: none of those bitches come from Park Slope.

NOT. A. ONE.

Translation: we have no "sandwich revolution" in Park Slope.

The 10 Best Hardware Stores in Brooklyn

IMAGE VIA WEIRD BROOKLYNBrownstoner came out with a non-scientific list of our borough's best hardware stores...and three of em were in Park Slope:

Pintchik (478 Bergen Street) came in at number 4; Tarzian Hardware (193 7th Avenue) came in at number 5 and R&A Houseware (109 5th Avenue) came in at number 9.

Just outside the borders of Park Slope, Greschler’s (660 5th Avenue) tied for number 10.

Did they miss any? (this would probs be an appropriate spot for some "nailing it on the head" joke, no?).

BEST OF PARK SLOPE 2011

A million years ago we asked you kind folk to weigh-in on your favorite bars and food joints in the nabe. Well the results are in (insert Griswold family tongue drumroll from that one scene in Christmas Vacation)! We spent hours going over all of your embittered comments and begrudged votes, and somehow we still came up with a great group of winners. Herewith are the very best joints in Park Slope to get drunk and get fat (accourding to YOU...so if you disagree, yell at each other)!
