Who Gives a Shit: Are you excited for Beauty Bar?

(Sam Horine / Gothamist)Our friends over at Gothamist recently swung by and snapped some pics of Park Slope's very first Beauty Bar, which is housed in what used to be one half of Ozzie's on 5th Avenue. According to the blog, "The space has a pretty fair Happy Hour ($2 off all drinks and a $10 drink and manicure combo between 4-8 p.m.) to go alongside pretty reasonable prices for the area (beers run $5-7, cocktails are around $10).

You can check out all of the photos of the new joint HERE.

Anyone excited for BB's arrival?

Moutarde Makes L Mag's List of BK Bars Featured on the Big Screen

Photo via L MagazineL Magazine recently put together a list of 10 Brooklyn Bars that have appeared on the big screen. Park Slope was only mentioned once -- 5th Avenue's Moutarde doubled for a Paris bistro in Julie & Julia -- but that's OK, because the scene featured the inimitable talents of Meryl Streep and Jane Lynch, whose presence in our fine 'hood alone makes up for it.

[Review'd] Sea Witch

When I last lived in the vicinity of Park Slope, it was 2008-2009, and I resided in a 4th floor walkup on 4th Ave & 21st St. As far as stuff worth going to on 5th Ave past 21st street, there was basically nothing until you hit Sunset Park. Since then, the selection of bars and restaurants past 15th has grown & voila! As of this past December, there's finally something worth going to past 21st Street.

I'm speaking of Sea Witch, the bar on 5th Ave between 21st & 22nd Street with a name that evokes the nasty-ass Ursula skank from The Little Mermaid. Since its opening back in December, I've grabbed food and drinks there on a number of occasions, and every time, there've been a good amount of people hanging out in the bar: a crowd but nothing too crazy. A few weeks back, I finally got the chance to sit down with Andy Hawkins, the owner of the place.

Is Park Slope A Secret Beer Mecca?

The slope is well known for strollers and shops, eclectic eateries and fancy abodes. Its residents are picky when it comes to produce, coffee or brunch. You’d think that when it comes to adult libations, it might be a hotbed of wine bars or high-end booze purveyors… martini joints and speakeasy-type cocktails made with organic, fair trade, sustainable mint and grass-fed, free range coconuts.

But the evidence suggests that we’re very happy with beer. Good beer. I’ve noticed, time and again, that non-Slopers often have very good things to say about the beer selection in our pubs and eateries.  And while we’re not known for making it, we’re seemingly a great place for offering and enjoying a bounty of bevs.

Manhattan Wine Bar Moving Into Great Lakes

Photo via NY Eater

As we first reportedTerroir, the self-described "elitist wine bar for everyone" with locations in the East Village, Tribeca and Murray Hill, will soon be opening their first Brooklyn location.

Owners Marco Canora and Paul Grieco recently confirmed that they'll be moving into Great Lakes' old space on 5th Ave and 1st Street. They have not announced an opening date.

This will come as wonderful news to all of the Brooklynites that have left rave reviews about their food and wine on the joint's Yelp page.
