Halloween is Over...What Do We Do Now?

Image Via Chinae Alexander

It’s the day after Halloween. If you went out, you’re probably exhausted, hung-over, and wondering what the hell you are going to do with that “Naughty Paula Deen” costume (complete with buttery Slip n’ Slide). If you stayed home, you probably had one trick-or-treater like I did (who was handsomely rewarded with an Atkins Chocolate Chip granola bar)… then ate all the entire bucket of candy yourself and watched Jamie Lee Curtis not die in the original Halloween movie.

And here we are…stuck with a headache/stomach ache, owning a shitty costume and living with a stoop full of more decorative gourds than you can shake a stick at. What the hell do we do now?

[My Favorite Park Slope...] Place to Get Fancy (Jewelry).

Image Via PS5thavebid Flickr

There are two types of jewelry that I'm used to: Zales/Jared/Mall Stores (TEXAS) or Cartier/Tiffany/Harry Winston (NYC)

Both...not great.

I've looked high and low for good jewels in the Slope...and there's a severe deficit, people. Comfortable walking shoes? Check. Kid's Clothes? Check. Good Vintage Shops? Check. Fancy Jewelry? MEH. So I'll admit, I walked by St. Kilda for about 2 months before stepping foot inside. Why, you ask?

[What To Do In Park Slope When...] Your Manhattan Friends Come For A Fall Staycation.

Image via Eric Ryan Anderson

The word "staycation" is maybe the worst atrocity that marketers have committed in the last hundred years, but I'm using it here because it's the only appropriate word for when your friends from Manhattan "come all the way out" to Brooklyn for some rest and relaxation time. Fall is a particularly frequent time for Manhattanites to travel the full fifteen minutes it takes to get to the Slope, expecting a full on autumn Festival as soon as they haul their asses off the R train.

Rightfully so. People actually decorate shit for harvest/Thanksgiving/Halloween in these parts, and no one loves a cornucopia like this girl.

SO, what do you do when you being asked to provide a relaxing fall-themed day for your Manhattanite friends?

COOL OR NOT COOL: STARBUCKS CALLING THE COPS ON YOUR SQUATTER ASS?

Image via thesalmonfarm.orgGawker recently reported an incident at a Manhattan Starbucks in which a dude got kicked out of the joint for just sitting there and not buying anything. Here's the clincher though...they called the cops. I mean, that seems a little excessive, no? The tipster reported that the man was "well-dressed" i.e. not a homeless, crazy guy trying to eat his own elbow. Here's a snippet of the conversation that took place once the cops came:

Guy: "They told me to buy a cup of coffee or leave. That's pressure. I'm in Starbucks all the time. This isn't a Mom & Pop store."
Police: "It's a business and you have to buy something."
Guy: "Is this any way to run a business? I'm leaving, but I want your badge numbers."

So what's the deal Starbucks?

Rescuing Dogs, a Block Party and All around Badassery? We're IN!

Image Via Chinae Alexander

We love to see folks in the 'hood doing great things, especially when it comes to four-legged friends.

Let me tell you a little about Sara.

Sara started an independent dog rescue called Badass Brooklyn Foster Dog about 6 months ago, AND is a documentary filmmaker who lives right here in the Slope. The pups she rescues are mostly from high-kill, rural shelters in South Carolina, North Carolina, and Kentucky, and she's doing most of the leg work herself (unpaid), along with a group of other documentary filmmakers from around Brooklyn who have recently joined her. Sara typically houses 2-4 dogs in her 1 bedroom apartment in addition to her own beagle, so she needs some help. Here's how we can do our part...
