Phish-o-Lution 2.0 [Welcome To Our New Life, Erica!!!!!!!]

I know it is early in the morning, but I had to set my alarm so that I could post this before Erica woke up. I'm so incredibly excited to be sharing this news with both the FIPS community and my wife all at the same time.

A little over a year ago, some of you might remember that I hijacked this blog for one magical, tye-dyed day, in my own attempt to cause a Phish-o-lution right here in Park Slope. While Erica and I love each other very much, Phish has always been a topic that we were not able to see eye-to-eye on, and by taking over PHIPS FIPS, I was truly hoping to bring us closer to a big picture understanding that Phish is way more than just a band to me...it's a way of life.

BLOCK-OFF! 5th Ave [btwn 4th & 3rd] vs. 5th Ave [btwn President & Union]

some artsy photo from the Phish show in Camden [ed note: UGH...PHISH!]

Oh, man. I just got back from a Park Slope-free weekend of Phish shows in Massachusetts & scenic Camden and I’m totally burnt right now. Since June is here, it was a badass weekend, with lots of hip-focused dancing & slight tans from lovely weekend weather (sorry rain-soaked Jones Beachgoers). All I’m saying is that in the two shows I saw, I heard me a Fluffhead, a Lizards, a Guyute, a Hood, a Wolfman’s Brother, a Fee, a Possum, a stellar Chalkdust opener, a Contact and an Antelope-->Tweezer Reprise closer. It was like 1998 all over again.

This week, to honor Park Slope’s neo-hippies, we’re infusing our two blocks with Patchouli & herb & the souls of folks in their mid-thirties as we hang out on 5th Ave btwn 4th & 3rd and President & Union. As one block embodies the soul of Phish pre-Trey arrest & the other embodies that late period before this year’s reforming, where it felt like a funeral for Phish, we’ll friggin’ twirl & spin & sway & look up at summer skies feeling like there’s no place we’d rather be. If you’re vindictive like me, we’ll also see it as another example of why the Grateful Dead are so not as good. Let the shaggy-haired & pitted, pentatonic, Helping Phriendly judging begin!

BREAKING: R.I.P. PHUCKED IN PARK SLOPE; It's ALL GOOD IN THE ‘HOOD

Dearest Erica,

I think I may have taken this a bit TOO far. I got caught up in the moment and couldn't stop.

In all honestly, I guess your argument that Phish fans are a bunch of smelly, hippy, brain dead stoners has been written about for over a decade. It's been played out...and it's just not true.

It's funny, because in a way Phish fans and the FIPS community ARE more alike than you would think. Both are dedicated and passionate about what they believe in (whether it be snark or music). Both have a forum to share stories and express themselves. At the end of the day, isn't that what people want?

I'll admit taking a screenshot of your playlist was a low blow. Adding visual commentary took it to another level. Who am I to judge? I like songs that last 40 minutes and you don't. WHO REALLY CARES?

So yeah...sorry.

I took the liberty of switching everything back on the site to the old FIPS design. Hell, I'll even return the iphone case.

I would also like to point out that I am symbolically handing back the reigns to you at a time of day that is special for Phishheads across the globe: 4:20

With Love,

Greg
