Wickedspoon: New Fro Yo Joint To Open

Ok, so my love for Forty Carrots runs verrrry verrrry deep. I slum it at Yogo Monster every once in awhile because, hello...I have needs. But I'm srsly intrigued by this new fro yo place that's opening up this weekend, Wickedspoon.

Scheduled to open this Saturday, they're giving out free fro yo samples from noon to 3pm. Apparently this is going to be another Pinkberry-ish type place as their flavors are Original Tart, Pomegranate, Chocolate as well as a flavor-of-the-month. But more importantly they go beyond the basic flavors to offer shit like fro-yo-stuffed whoopie pies from WannaHavaCookie and fro-yo-topped Belgian waffles.

Needless to say, my fat ass will be stopping by.

Campo de' Fiori: It's Awn Like Donkey Kong

Fornino Shmornino...I'm moving on to Camp de'Fiori! It's a new pizza joint on 5th Ave that, according to a tip from our pals at Metromix, is opening today-ish.

This spot is gonna be run by former Del Posto manager Andrea Dal Monte, and is actually a sister restaurant to Rome's famous Forno Campo de' Fiori.

This is the line that got me from Metromix's write-up:

"We worked on our dough for 15 years," says Dal Monte, whose Italian partner is a "flour engineer" and member of the country's national Olympic baking team.

These bitches had me at "flour engineer."

See your asses there this weekend.

Fornino Take Out Open

Evan Sung for the NYTSo, Fornino opened up their little take-out shop next to their new restaurant. I'm still feeling pretty meh about this place personally, but this blog is not about me, it's about YOU (well mostly), so go to town.

"PARKSLOPE:" Yer Doin' It Wrong

We've got a new neighbor in town, Center Slopers: the Parkslope Eatery.  Yes, as I am used to filtering my life through an AP Stylebook and painstaking line edits on a daily basis with my real world job, I cringe as I write "Parkslope."  I suppose I won't ask the question as to whether these guys are locals.

I've been watching this place get built for a while, and, as I walked by the other day and saw it'd opened up (Seventh Ave at 5th Street), I became irrationally angry at its sign.  (My lack of a life/where I expend my emotional effort is not a point of contention with regards to this post, so move right along, please.)  I'm willing to forgive these guys because a cursory peek inside revealed a make-your-own-salad counter (though I've yet to try it, or even walk in for that matter), but I guess take this as a word of advice to you potential business owners: Like, use spell check 'n' shit.

Anyone have any additional details on this joint?  Thumbs up/down?

Park Slope Cheap Eats

One of the main tenets of Fucked in Park Slope is that we're all, essentially, fucked in Park Slope because it's so expensive to live here but we all love it and can't leave.

And sure, the rents are expensive, but it's also kind of expensive to feed yourself around here as well.  $32 steak at Benchmark? Totally worth it, but not justifiable on my "Hi, I work in media" salary.

But there are some decent cheap eats around here too, as evidenced by Time Out New York's Cheap Eats issue.  The Dram Shop got a shout-out for being one of the "Best Budget Burgers" and Bark Hot Dogs scored a mention as one of the best "Affordable Green Treats."

Where's your favorite place to stuff your face with quality food on the cheap?  I'm gonna say Rachel's burritos—$8 for a burrito the size of your arm.  For that price, I can almost forgive that their service is terrible.
