Ace Supermarket: "Turkey Pastrami and Vegan Cupcakes, Here We Come!??"

No clue if this shit is true, but just read this on Brooklynian:

"Was told that the Ace Supermarket at 7th and Berkeley place is nearly ready to undergo what sounds to be a pretty extensive renovation (think Union market-esque), complete with bakery, deli, etc. I think they may be taking over the space which used to be zuzu's petals next door. not sure..."

Whoa.

I hope this shit *is* true, though it will sting for me to have this place closed for renos as its pretty much my round the corner goto.

Recommendation For A Good Massage Place In The Slope?

Uhm, am I the only one who thinks this shit is all code for: where can I get a happy ending?

From Brooklynian:

"I’m looking for a good massage place in the Park Slope area where the massage therapist speaks good English. I just want to be able to talk for five minutes about the specifics of my problems before beginning the massage."

Riiiiiiiiight.

Secret Restaurant Behind Loki Lounge?

photo: Brownstoner

Ok, this is just weird. Cause yeah: I love Park Slope, but also its not nearly cool enough around here for secret restaurants-n-shit. Though, apparently that hasn't stopped Loki Lounge. According to some folks on Brooklynian, the Loki Lounge has opened a new hush hush place behind their current restaurant. From urbandog25:

"Place is called Benchmark - saw the menu outside - they have no sign just a lectern with the menu on 2nd st - looked kinda like a Smith St restaurant circa '99 - foie gras, free range stuff, etc... not that such a menu is bad (if cooked right), just surprising given the location.

They are either well funded and going for a very soft opening to work out the kinks - or they are idiots and will be out of business in a few months - because the place has no press is impossible to find and is often the beaten path - I really hope Zebra's review is accurate and the owner has the funds to build up a business.
"

Well, you gotta give Loki Lounge props for an interesting approach. In a climate where non-secret restaurants are going out of business left and right, maybe the key to success is not telling anyone about your place, and then completely hiding its location? That shit is just crazy enough to potentially work.

[True confessions: I've never even stepped foot in Loki Lounge, mostly because I find the font they chose for their awning so horribbly offensive to my eyes, its never occured to me to go near the place. But most people on Yelp seem to dig it, and that back patio does look pretty fab].

Who Gives A Shit: Casual Friday?

This post on Brooklynian looking for a good tailor in Park Slope (capped off with a worthwhile rant at the end about women wearing suits), reminded me that there are still probably a shitload of people who have to dress up for work every day. Like the full monty: suits, ties, stockings, blazers, the works.

I haven't had a job like that in AGES. And in all honesty, I don't think I could ever go back to that shit, but it got me curious about what you bitches have to do?

So spill: do you have to dress up for work? If so, do you make enough scratch to make all that worthwhile? Also, do you hate it? (the dressing up, I mean, though feel free to rant about your job too).

That's it.

Again, answer in the comments (and feel free to go stealth anon if you want some priv-ass-y).

OFFICIAL FIPS ENDORSEMENT: THE DOUBLE WINDSOR

photo: Sam Horine

ATTN BALLERS: I'd like to suggest that you stop whatever you are doing right now (put down your bong; step away from the internet porn; and just say no to your new Craigslist missed connection "friend"...at least for a few mins) and head straight on over to Double Windsor!

We'd like to suggest that you go patronize the Double Windsor...HARD.

Buy drinks! Buy food! (do they even sell food!? Yes! After 5pm! Who cares?...just buy it!). Scrub graffiti off their bathroom stalls! SHOW RESPECT TO DOUBLE WINDSOR. DOUBLE WINDSOR IS OUR HERO!

Here's why. Behold this post from Park Slope Parents:
