Ted Nugent's Son is angering Greenwood Heights residents with his beer garden

Photo via www.greenwoodparkbk.com

It’s been about a month since Greenwood Park’s gates opened, and local residents are already finding reasons to complain about the 13,000 square foot beer garden. The Brooklyn Paper recently clued us in to the drama: apparently the blocks surrounding the day drinker’s paradise have become havens for public sex, urination, and noise. The Paper even goes so far as to post a photo of a used condom allegedly found on the sidewalk (at least they’re using protection!), but of course, posting that photo is beneath the high standards of this blog.

“On any given night, we are witnessing public urination, sexual acts being performed, and drunks stumbling down the block,” one neighbor told The BK Paper. These guys are mad! I probably would be too if an outdoor bar moved into the abandoned auto repair shop on my block. Who wants progress, redevelopment, urban renewal, and a new place at which to get day drunk? Wouldn’t it be more fun to just stare at an abandoned piece of concrete forever?

For those of you eagerly awaiting the opening of Die Koelner Bierhalle on St. Marks near 4th Avenue -- an authentic, 4,000 square foot German beer hall with a giant back garden that will satisfy up to 200 drinkers at a time with 30 German beers on tap, 40 bottled brews and tasty bratwurst and kielbasa -- you might have to settle for elsewhere a tad bit longer.

Get Yer Dog Some Beer Bones in Time For Summer!

It's nearly summer, which means soon we'll be spending more time enjoying long, outdoor happy hours. If you're a dog owner, and like taking your pooch along for such festivities, you probably enjoy hanging out at dog-friendly bars like The Gate or Mission Dolores. Have you ever considered, whilst sipping away on a tall, cool, fermented beverage, that your dog may be looking up at you and thinking, Can I get some of that too, asshole? (Just me?)

If you do want to share the beer love with your dog, 5th Avenue's Paws in Paradise sells doggie Beer Bones. No word on if they'll give your dog a good buzz or not...

Is Park Slope A Secret Beer Mecca?

The slope is well known for strollers and shops, eclectic eateries and fancy abodes. Its residents are picky when it comes to produce, coffee or brunch. You’d think that when it comes to adult libations, it might be a hotbed of wine bars or high-end booze purveyors… martini joints and speakeasy-type cocktails made with organic, fair trade, sustainable mint and grass-fed, free range coconuts.

But the evidence suggests that we’re very happy with beer. Good beer. I’ve noticed, time and again, that non-Slopers often have very good things to say about the beer selection in our pubs and eateries.  And while we’re not known for making it, we’re seemingly a great place for offering and enjoying a bounty of bevs.

Dreams of a Greenwood Heights beer garden Are still alive

Denton Taylor via Brownstoner

Don't pour a little beer out just yet for the dying dream of a Greenwood Heights beer garden.
Rumors are still circling that the lot at 555 7th Avenue between 19th and 20th Streets will be a fancy beer garden with fire pits(!) and landscaping.

Originally said to open in July, the site currently houses a tagged fence and shipping pallets (possible material for the exterior.)
