Whassup: Tax-Reamed Edition

This week, Uncle Sam will be having violent, nonconsensual fiscal intercourse with all of us. Take a break from screaming in fury at your tax return to scream in joy (and some fury) at the fun shit going down in the Slope. It's Whassup, Tax Man edition!

* Thursday, April 14: EPICK Record Release, Southpaw: Esteemed FIPS blogstress Allison's bro (FIPS aint' above a little nepotism), EPICK and musical partner Elle will be screening a dope, BK video and flinging vinyl-recorded sound into eager hands. Make yours one of the lucky pair. 8:30pm, $10.

* Friday, April 15: Audiophile, Brooklyn Museum: Check out some local Brooklyn acts in the first of three indie-stravaganzas at the BK Museum. This time out, MDR rocks electro pop and New Villager explores multimedia. 7pm, Free with museum admission.

* Friday, April 15: Deadline, Power of Self art project, Money for Artists! I know, from the scores of other non-9-5 kids occupying the Slope's coffee shops that there are people living the artist's lifestyle around here. Saddle up, brush wielders, 'cuz NYC artist support group Artists Wanted is looking to fund a year of your bohemian existence. The project's self-portrait contest, Power of Self, accepts submissions through Friday.

* Tuesday, April 19:
New Doctor Who Premiere, Bell House: Catch the new Doctor Who BEFORE IT HAPPENS! That's right, travel in time to catch the first two weeks of the time-travelling nerd fetish before the official, April 23rd broadcast on BBC America. Expect costume and trivia contests, British fare from Chipshop, signed DVDs and oh so much delectable geekiness. 7pm, $5.

* Friday, April 22: Atlantic/Pacific, Union Hall: Celebrate the weird intoxicating power of romantic love (along with the more normal intoxicating power of beer) with Atlantic/Pacific's romance-infused psychadelia. 8pm, $10.

* COMING UP:

* Saturday, May 7: Brooklyn Museum's Target First Saturday, a Slope summer staple, makes museum attendance as fun as possible without reanimating dinosaurs or Teddy Roosevelt. Music, dance, activities and film dig mud-encrusted fingernails into the opening night's theme: Brooklyn's natural environment.
