WHASSUP: Things Are Happening; Go to Them

There's some shit going down in the Slope on a reoccurring basis to which we think you should go.  Since you're all fully aware that taking advice from us is a good idea.  Right.  Moving on.

*Every Tuesday, 8pm: Comedy.  BK comedienne Sara Schaefer's comedy goldmine Get Off Your Knees has a new home in the Slope at Southpaw's downstairs venue, DownSouth. It is full of awesome and funny, which are good enough reasons for us to go.  (Plus, FREE.)  Get info on lineups via Twitter.  Today is Tuesday, by the way.

*Every second Thursday: Speed dating.  The Internet Killed Your Dating Skills (it's true) hosts speed dating the second Thursday of every month at The Fifth Estate on 5th Ave.  (They also do it in Williamsburg on the first Thursday, but I'm ignoring that.)  Anyway, get shacked up like a good Park Sloper this Thursday, and subsequently.  Details on events here.

That's that.  You get no WHASSUPs unless you send us shit happening in Slope and the surrounding areas (Greenpoint and the East Village are not Park Slope, for those of you who need a reminder), so please, knock yourselves out.

WHASSUP: Park Slope Restaurant Tour

This is the first Google image result for "delicious yums."

Next week, one of my fav things is happening in the Slope, so put down your breast pumps and clear your calendars, you busy bees.

*Thursday, Sept 23: The Park Slope Restaurant Tour is going down along Sixth, Seventh and Eighth Avenues.  Never been?  Basically, delicious restaurants put delicious things out for you to sample.  You eat them and walk along.  You tell yourself you're not gorging yourself on food, because the bites are small and you are walking, but actually you are and it's okay.

Last year, I hadn't been to Anthony's, Fonda or Brook-Vin, but this thing turned me onto 'em, among others.  Anyway, if you're waiting for me to say something FIPS-y, keep on waiting, because I actually love this event.  Full list of participants here.

Oh, and if you see me hobbling down Seventh with my cane, yes, I do accept piggyback rides.  Just sayin'.

WHASSUP: This Weekend

Brooklyn Book Festival: Nerds unite!  The Brooklyn Book Festival is Sunday from 10AM-6PM and alllll that shit is free (probz because no one would pay to trade in their sweet Sunday hangovers for deep discussions on literature).  Where else can you see Roseanne Cash, John Hodgman and Salman Rushdie in one place (that is, besides in my dreams)?

Salsa Slam 2010: Ayayayayayyyy, Speedy Gonzalez!  I know we were just talking about The Bell House, but check it: NachosNY is hosting Salsa Slam 2010 on Sunday from 4PM-7PM.  This three-hour fiesta features over 20 tables of different hand-crafted local salsas on order.  And because you can't go three hours without a drink, they've got $4 Tecate tall boys up for grabs.  All of this is served alongside a side of live Mariachi music.  Bring your sombreros, dbags.  Tickets are $12 in advance, $15 at the door.  Get 'em here.

WHASSUP: Upcoming Stuff in September, Part Une

I haven't left my fucking apartment in days and have sort of forgotten there's an outside world, but apparently there is, and apparently there's shit happening in it.  So here's a lineup of several things I'm bitter your asses can do:

*Sunday, Sept 5: Walk around Coney.  Guided walking tour of historic Coney Island with a look at landmarks and architecture. 11a.m., rain or shine.  Free with suggested donation. Their site's not updated for this one, but the meeting place deets are the same as these.

*Friday, Sept 10: Music and foosball.  Wylie Toms and Third Wheel Band serenade you at Bar 4 on Seventh Ave.  It's free, and you can get the details here.  In related news, people still use MySpace.

*Sunday, Sept 12: Sunday night funnies.  "Nothing to Declare" at Union Hall with Hannibal Buress, Morgan Murphy, and Mike Lawrence.  Tickets here.  FYI: Eugene Mirman Comedy Fest follows right behind on the 16th-19th.

*Monday, Sept 13: A taste of Brooklyn.  Metromix's Hot Plates Live at the Bell House.  Sample eats from BK vendors, including Slope's own Benchmark and Fornino.  Preview the vendors here, and get reasonably priced tix here.  See you there, even if I have to crawl.

Even though most of this is next week material, I'll still post about WHASSUP, so keep sending along stuff, and add your own jams in the comments, per usual.

This Week in WTF: Foreclosures, MJ's Bday Bash, and Horny Judges

Wow, I wish I could have been there for all the hood doings this weekend, but I'm depending on you all to catch the vacationing masses up on "wassabeenup" in Park Slope. (I love you, Meredith, but if I never hear the word "wassup" again, it will be too soon).

Anyway, I'm especially sorry to have missed the 2nd Annual Michael Jackson Birthday Party, hosted by Absolut Brooklynian Spike Lee in the Nethermead. So, I need to know what went down? Or up? Are you going to be getting a poison pen letter from Erica or did you clean up after yourselves? I was unavoidably detained at the Lake Huntington Summer Community Talent Show. Truly, I think I might have preferred being at the MJ bash. But possibly not.
