Return Of The Blob! Giant Mushroom Tries To Kill Us All!

Photograph by Andy Newman/The New York Times

Hide yo’ kids, hide yo’ wife, hide yo’ Bugga-boo too, ‘cause the mushroom of Lincoln Place is going to make you vomit in your mouth (Remember that song from last summer, you guys?)

Park Slope has it’s very own Reishi Fungus, a giant mushroom that looks like an ookie cookie gone wrong, next to the playground on Lincoln Place. And caution –– don’t stop to pick up any loose change you might see, because NYT photogs put a shit ton of quarters all over the place for size reference.

OK, WHO ARE THESE PEOPLE?!

Photo by FiPS reader and super sleuth GREG!

Now and then we get an email from a FiPS reader informing us of yellow-clad cheerleaders who stand at the entrance to the 7th avenue B/Q station. They gleefully clap at commuters heading into work, yet no one seems to know who they are or what exactly they're doing.

About a month back a friend texted me: "YLLW FRKS ARE IN." I bolted out the door and headed toward the stop but by the time I got there they were gone. All that remained were their banana-yellow spirits. These people are my Loch Ness Monster.

Does anyone have any idea who the fuck they are?!

[UPDATE: Mystery solved. Thank you, Rob for sending along this Brownstoner article, which identifies the mystery cheerleaders as The Clap (hehe), a group that promotes “contagious applause for the public good.”]

Happy Wedding! Here Is a GIGANTIC PIECE OF SCAFFOLDING to Celebrate!

A girl dreams of her wedding day forever--the dress, the flowers, the dancing, the Port-o-John...um, huh? According to the Metro, that's exactly what's goin' down for six super-pissed brides with wedding plans at the Slope's Montauk Club.

The brides say like they were screwed out of their $1800 deposits and the oh-so-dreamy historic setting they expected for their nuptials, getting instead a metric shit ton of dark scaffolding and outhouses (and probs a hefty pharmacy bill for the requesite steady stream of Ativan absued to deal with the "traumatic" experience). I mean, who doesn't find THAT dynamite combo romantic? But hey, maybe that's just me.

Anyway, what're your thoughts on the sitch: Would you be pissed as hell, too, or just kinda deal?

Prospect Park Vandals?

FIPS reader Bee sent in these shots of some broken lights in Prospect Park from this morn. She entered the park through Grand Army Plaza and then followed the path down through the tunnel to the Long Meadow...so these puppies were on the way.

WTF happened??

I give up: what the hell are these?

I’d like you all to take a minute and look at the above image. Perhaps you’ve seen this before? It’s 1 of 30 or so objects of the same kind located up and down 5th and 7th avenue. Sometimes the traffic cone is there. Other times, it’s just a black concrete square with four metal pipes poking out on each end. For the past two months I have been trying to figure out what the hell these things are supposed to be, and it’s driving me nuts.
