Shooting At Heatwave BBQ

Verrry impressive.

After last year's garbage-palooza at the annual Heatwave BBQ in Prospect Park thrown by MIH Ventures that left the park in shambles for dayz, attendees decided to srsly step up their game this year...by shooting each other.

From the Brooklyn Paper:

"One man was badly wounded and hundreds more were terrified when gunmen exchanged seven shots into a massive crowd outside Prospect Park last night after the controversial “Heatwave” gathering ended..."

A witness went on to explain:

“It was not an amicable atmosphere,” said the witness. “Guys were getting out of fancy cars with bodyguards.”

Another witness said, “It was like it had been building up to something for quite some time,” describing six or seven shots.

Uhm, I have a groundbreaking idea: how's about the Parks Dept NEVER issues another permit to these MIH mofos again??

ATTN BIKERS: KEEP YOUR JUNK IN YOUR TRUNK!

BWHAAAHAAAAA!

From Craigslist yesterday:

To cute guy on bike on in tiny shorts with his dick hangn out - m4m (5th ave and Union)

"You were stopped on your bike at Union and 5th and your shorts were pushed completely aside so the entirety of your dick and balls could hang out the side of your shorts. As you rode off, your genitals bobbed up and down with every rotation of the pedals. Everyone was just looking at you like viewing a car accident.
I am sure there are plenty of places you could go where exhibiting your sweaty flacid junk would be appreciated, but visually tea bagging all the residents of Park Slope is not appropriate. Get it together brother"

The Stench of Summer: Yummy Yum Pee Yoo

Summer in the city stinks. Literally. As in, this heat wave has created malodorousness on 7th avenue alone that has reached noxious levels.

I want an odor advisory put out.

What I didn't know until Gothamist told me (fine, via The Wall Street Journal), is that there is actually a division of the city's Environmental Protection Agency that investigates the manifest odor complaints and hands out violations for the stinkiest perps.

Fucked in Prospect Park? MIH Heatwave BBQ, The Sequel

Any of you OG's around here may recall the MIH Heatwave BBQ last summer around this time in Prospect Park. For those that need to be caught up, here's what went down:

Some co, MIH Ventures, threw a GIGANTIC BBQ in the park, without a permit, and then had the audacity to leave that bitch looking like Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome. Trash was E-V-E-R-Y-W-H-E-R-E and I mean everywhere. The park looked like it got date raped after some sorority party, and it literally took a team of volunteers days to get it looking like normal again. Needless to say, the Parks Dept was none too pleased, and our lil ole post got over 100 comments from various, angry-n-pissed off BKers.

Well a crafty FIPS reader has done her research and alerted us to the fact that this shit is going down AH-gain this Sunday, July 18th.

Jayzus.

Ok, I've got a few questions:

  1. Do these MIH Venture bitches have a permit this time around??
  2. If they DO have a permit, HOW THE FUCK DID THEY GET ONE after the shitshow that was left last year?
  3. If they *do* have a permit, and the Parks Dept was smoking crack long enough to actually issue them one, what measures are being taken this year to avoid turning Prospect Park into a rotting garbage barge again?

UPDATE: They do have a permit!? Uhm, how???

People are already getting pissy about this (myself included) and the damn thing hasn't even gone down. So fine: If MIH Ventures HAS gone ahead with plans to be responsible, manage their trash and not act like a little bitch this year, then I will stand corrected.

But as of now, know this: we are watching you "Heatwave BBQ"...and we're ready to bring down the wrath of Khan on your asses if you leave our park looking like Three Mile fucking island.

You've been warned.

THIS JUST IN: THE ITALIANS ARE IN CHARGE HERE

Click to Englarge (image via very small arrayAs you may have surmised from my obsession with documenting every business in Park Slope, block by block, I'm a fan of deconstructing the makeup of cities. What it really boils down to is that I’m in love with maps. How much do I love them? Once, I was on a "date" and my female companion and I went into a Barnes & Noble and we sat on the floor for almost an hour looking at maps. It was like something out of a Wes Anderson film, right down to the part where things never worked out between us. I still had my maps though. They’ll never leave me.

To be honest, it's been a while since I've had good map, so when I stumbled across this map earlier this week, I just about lost it in my shorts. That's figuratively, of course. I was wearing pants anyhow. So this map...it breaks down the "Most Common Type of Restaurant in a Zip Code According to the Village Voice Restaurants Guide." Wait...the Village Voice is still relevant? Wow. Well, I guess it’s better than using Timeout NY as the basis of your map. They're kinda douchey.

According to the map breakdown, Park Slope's DOMINATED by Italian restaurants. I suppose it makes sense. There are a pretty good amount of Italian places and this was once an Italian-dominated neighborhood. Personally, I live on enough pasta at home that when I go out, there’s a 99% chance I'm not going Italian. That means that over time, I've effectively programmed my brain to devote zero real estate to their existence. That being the case, I would've thought that Japanese or Mexican would've prevailed, but I guess it's really a moot point. In five years everything will be New American Fusion anyhow.

See more from the map makers, very small array, here.
