COOL BROOKLYN ARTIST ALERT: JONATHAN NESTERUK

What began as an exercise to photograph people who walked by his apartment has since evolved into a project to capture a cross section of the Brooklyn population. Over the past few weekends, still life photographer Jonathan Nesteruk has set up his mobile photo studio along two Prospect Park West entrances to catch Slopers on their way in and out of the park. He's taken about 300 photos so far, but has a goal of 1000. When he's done, Jonathan thinks that it could be a photography book on the real Brooklyn.

Man, Ppl In Park Slope Are Very Fucking Neighborly

Remember how the DOH barely gave us any notice that they were spraying toxic chemicals all over our faces the other night in the name of preventing West Nile virus?

Signs were posted pretty much nowhere, and if you wanted to find out what the hell was going on, you basically had to call 311 (and even then, people got conflicting reports). Oh, and by the way: you were supposed to keep your windows closed, and not go outside cause these chemicals are KNOWN TO CAUSE CANCER.

Anyway, luckily for us Park Slope is full of helpful, neighborly like folks. Like this one for instance, who went home, typed up this note, printed it out, and walked their asses down to Prospect Park to tape it up at several entrance points.

I must admit, I *am* entertained by the fact that this helpful neighbor is only interested in saving my dog's life and not mine, but still: I appreciate the effort.

Shhh! Be Vewy Vewy Quiet: Homeless Hunting in Prospect Park

This post is for all you fans of farm-to-table sustainable dining: The New York Post reported that some hippies from San Francisco a group of homeless people have been living in make-shift camps in Prospect Park. They've been living on the southern shore of the lake near a construction site for the new ice rink, "where they poached the local wildlife using cruel hunting methods." What kind of local wildlife you ask? Squirrels and cute little ducks, just to name a few. Then they roast the poor things over illegal fires. Or for those who have been hooked on the raw diet fad (GAG ALERT), you'll be happy to know that some have chosen to eat the critters raw. We're talking some real frontier bullshit.

"NO BBQ" SIGNS POSTED IN PROSPECT PARK: AN END TO GUERILLA GRILLING?

What do cigarettes and grills in New York City have in common these days? Seems like you can't light 'em up outdoors anywhere! 

No longer can we pull the “I had no idea!” scheme when grilling anywhere the fuck we want in the park. This excuse almost always works when dealing with park rangers, parking lot security, mall cops, and any law enforcement that is upwardly mobile via Segway or horse.

Prospect Park Vandals?

FIPS reader Bee sent in these shots of some broken lights in Prospect Park from this morn. She entered the park through Grand Army Plaza and then followed the path down through the tunnel to the Long Meadow...so these puppies were on the way.
