Flatbush Is Getting A Makeover!

Photo via Here's Park Slope

The stretch of Flatbush between Sterling and 8th avenue is a place where dreams go to die. Between the empty storefronts and the facade of The Dialysis center, whose sad, pale pink facade is reminscent of a bored vagina, the area is in need of a serious makeover. Lucky for us, one man is doing just that.

HERE'S PARK SLOPE: My Lucky Lou's & Muni-Meters

IMAGE VIA HERES PARK SLOPE

Hey folks, Dan here from that other Park Slope blog, Here's Park Slope, with this week's Week in Review. And if you've got friends in Williamsburg or Greenpoint, tell them that starting Monday they'll get their very own blogs, called, what else, Here's Williamsburg and Here's Greenpoint!

On Monday, news broke that a new bar and grill will be moving into the space last occupied by Kohzee Cafe, on Sixth Avenue and Seventh Street. Their website claims that they're "already attracting critical acclaim, both locally and nationally," even though they haven't even opened yet. Now that's impressive!

HERE'S PARK SLOPE: THE BATTLE OF THE PET STORES

On Monday, construction began in earnest at the soon-to-be best butcher shop in Brooklyn, an outpost of the celebrated Fleisher's Meats, opening soon on Fifth near Union. Also, Sushi Tatsu, the Japanese/Thai restaurant on Flatbush near Seventh, shut down.

HERE'S PARK SLOPE: Farewell Fatoosh

Monday brought news that two Middle Eastern restaurants within a block of one another, the beloved Fatoosh and the... slightly less beloved Pita Pizza Grill (formerly Pita Hut), both near the corner of Fifth Ave and Ninth Street, have closed. The 20-year old Eye Shoppe on Seventh is also expanding, into the space last occupied by Video Forum.

On Tuesday Yes Cleaners began moving a block up Fifth in the North Slope, into the space last occupied by Corduroy Kid. I also got a couple photos of the under-construction Prime Six, whose facade is complete.

On Wednesday word got around that Cobble Grill II, the spectacularly unspectacular burger/salad "restaurant" on Sixth and 14th, had shuttered after only a couple weeks in business. Construction is also underway at the lot on Sixth near Sterling that had been vacant for the past couple years.

On Thursday I published the first review of Bare Burger (here's the FIPS review), which opened the night before on Seventh and First. It's quite good, and allows us to eat lots of new and exciting animals, like elk. It's been packed every night since opening.

Friday brought word that Culture, everyone's favorite new frozen yogurt place (fro-yo seems like too belittling a term for it), is now offering drinkable low-fat yogurt in four flavors. It also looks like the "handmade goodness"-selling women and children's boutique will on Fifth between Fourth and Fifth will be opening up over the weekend.

HERE'S PARK SLOPE: Blueprint & Ron Paul

photo via Here's Park SlopeHello again, friends! Hope you're all hanging out by an air conditioner. Here's a roundup of this week's news from Here's Park Slope:

Monday brought news that Fresh on Fifth, the women's boutique down on Fifth between Eleventh and Twelfth Streets, would be closing up shop in August First.

On Tuesday, the news spread that the long-vacant space that was last home to Hollywood Video, on the corner of Fifth Ave and Eighth Street, would be a Citibank. Good if you have an account there, but not for much else. I also snuck the first peek into the completed Bare Burger, coming soon to Seventh and First.

Wednesday confirmed that the wine bar from the owner of Miriam had indeed opened, on Fifth between St. Marks and Warren. Also, the space last home to Park Slope Restaurant, on Fifth between 11th and 12th, will be replaced by either a French or Italian restaurant. Finally, I took a look into the reason behind the renaming of 11th between 7th and 8th.

At long last, the neighborhood's first high-end cocktail bar opened Wednesday night, and it's certainly worth a visit. A van also crashed head-on into a FedEx truck on Seventh Avenue and First Street at about 3 PM on Thursday, resulting in multiple injuries.

And on Friday, I broke the news that the space last occupied by Patio Lounge, on Fifth between Berkeley and Lincoln, will soon be home to an Italian cafe and bakery. Also, what's the deal was with all those "Ron Paul Illuminati" signs sprouting up in the North Slope?
