We're All In This Together: CABLE-N-INTERNET

Have you ever wondered how any of your annonying monthly bills compare to other people's annoying monthly bills? Well we did. This week we're tackling: CABLE. 

Trust me: I realize that I'm one of the chosen people. And I'm not talking about being Jewish...I'm talking about living in Park Slope and having Verizon FIOS. And so I know that my cable bill may look nothing like many of YOUR cable bills. But, still the whole thing got me curious.

We all pay scads of dough to many of the same utilities and I'm wondering if any of our asses are getting jacked!? So I thought we could have a big ole Park Slope show-and-tell and kick things off with our cable/internet bills.

FiPS Readers Weigh In: Time Warner Rates Going up again

Erica has never held back her hatred for Time Warner. Nor did we withhold our excitement upon hearing that Fios was coming to Park Slope. But that was over the summer, and as far as I know, some Park Slopers are still waiting for the opportunity to drop Time Warner for the greener grasses of Fios. In addition, it looks like TW's prices are about to go up. A FiPS reader writes in:

My girlfriend and I (on 6th st & 7th ave) just got notice that fucking TWC rates are going up AGAIN. FUCKING AGAIN. Some info I've gathered:  I saw averizon trucked parked on 9th st and 7th ave a couple months ago and talked to the driver about what the story was with FiOS in park slope.  He told me that all the underground cabling had been installed but they were having problems getting in to peoples backyards and such to install the rest of the necessary equipment.  Also worth noting - these fancy new buildings like the one our friends live in on 4th ave and 5th street has fucking FiOS!

Fios Is Coming to Park Slope!

Is Fios marching into Time Warner territory and setting up shop in the Slope? Sounds like it! We just received this tip from FiPS reader Jim:

Verizon just rang the doorbell of my janky ass brownstone north of union between 4th and 5th, looking for permission to install.  Looks like we're getting Fios in a month, and that whole "only for 30+ units" rumor is patently untrue, direct from the whore's mouth.

And FiPS's own Erica, whose love for Fios is as strong as her distaste for Time Warner, investigated as well. She reports:

I just chased down a Verizon installer on 8th Ave and Berkeley and he confirmed that they are, in fact, bringing FIOS to big and small buildings alike. He was off to do an install in a Brownstone apartment on the block.

Get ready, guys. It's happening.

Verizon Fios vs. Time Warner?

I recently came across this thread on Brooklynian by detour, who was looking for some advice on Fios vs. Time Warner in Park Slope.

As you all know cause I won't STFU about it, six months or so ago I switched from TW to Fios and yes ppl: that move has been L-I-F-E  C-H-A-N-G-I-N-G. So much so that I wanted to, yet again, encourage ANY OF YOU BTCHZ who have the opp to do so to run, not walk over to the Fios Club and ditch TW like a bad rash.

BREAKING: Fios In Park Slope...It's A Reality

As y'all know (cause I won't stfu about it), I'm a new FiOS customer. And just to follow up: IT STILL TOTALLY FUCKING RULES.

I feel like one of those 11-year-old kids who was living in a state run orphanage, with no hope and no future and then my ass got adopted by Daddy Warbucks. The tennis court is the left and the swimming pool is to the rear, btchz!

So here's the thing. I've been getting emails and calls and tweets and questions about why Fios isn't on your block, and his block, and their block and when is it gonna be in S. Slope and N. Slope and so finally I decided to check!
