Shame on You 71 8th Ave
You know when they do those evening news segments where they help out some enraged community member by having the newscaster confront a deadbeat landlord, scheming business owner or some other obvious asshole? And you watch and cheer on as said asshole is embarrassed on national local TV in front of hundreds of thousands of people?
Right, well FIPS is gettin into that game too.
Today's FIPS "Shame on you, mofo!" award is going to the owner/owners of the building at 71 8th Avenue, at the corner of 8th and Union Street. Whoever this sonofabitch tit is, they never, ever, ever, never, never shovel the goddamned snow in front (AND on the side of) their goddmned building. And its *really* friggin annoying.
I inadvertently took a photo of the situation on Sunday (see above). Notice all that caked on, piled up snow? And allllllll that clear sidewalk right behind it? That's what I'm talking about.
This is a building with, I'm guessing, 4 to 6 apartments as well as an office space on the first floor. I'm assuming its a rental building, because if not, than I need to get even madder than I already am. I'm further assuming that there is no super in this building (b/c again, if there is, than Rage Against the Machine doesn't even have any songs that are angry enough to express my seething annoyance).
Here's what happens EVERY. FUCKING. TIME. IT. SNOWS:
1. Snowfall
2. Everyone on the block (and I mean like the full, walk around the four corners of Union, 8th Ave, Berkeley and Plaza Street block) shovel up their snow, put down salt and clear a path.
3. 71 8th Ave. does shit
Let me reiterate: this is not a one time phenomenon. No one at 71 8th Ave ever shovels snow....E-V-E-R.
Though the building is front facing on 8th Ave, the majority of its property line is actually the side facing portion of the building on Union Street. And since this building is located in N. Park Slope, within close proximity to two express subway lines and Prospect Park, I assume that the tenants pay good (read: overpriced) rents to live at this friggin ski lodge.
This is also a seriously busy motherfucking intersection, people. Anyone walking down Union Street (from Grand Army Plaza, Prospect Park, the Central Library, etc) has to walk right the fuck through all this shit. Oh, and there's also a bus stop there. Try navigating that corner with a dog, a Bugaboo, and a bitch like me coming from the opposite direction trying to get my ass to the subway...its not a pretty picture.
Regular snow is bad enough, but the worst is when it gets icy. Look at these poor kids trying to get through it all this morn:
Ok, so that's *not* actually the corner of 8th and Union, but it may as well be cause shit gets that icy. In fact, I heard a rumor that someone fell a few years ago and broke their hip on that very corner. I fell myself last year (though thankfully the incident was just mortifying, rather than bone breaking).
I've talked to neighbors, and people call 311 all the time to report those bitch asses...but it never seems to do anything.
So, I'm reverting to shame...and blog ranting. And, Ok, cursing too.
Get your shit together, 71 8th Ave! FIPS CARES! If you own this building: hire a motherfucking super; or a motherfucking snow shoveler; I don't really care which...just get it done.
Sheesh.
[Feel free to bitch in the comments about any slacker snow shovelers on your own blocks].
