PARK SLOPE TOP TEN: PLACES TO GET HAMMERED AT BRUNCH

Drink options at Fonda.Last Saturday, I rolled out of bed well after noon and treated my bedheaded self to brunch. As a former early riser, it took a while for me to appreciate brunch for its true beauty. At its best, brunch is an unapologetic continuation of the previous night's drinking. There is no better breeding ground for such indulgence than the many brunch hotspots in the Slope. After MUCH research, here is a list of the ten places you should hit up for a drink on a Saturday morning....or afternoon.

#10 - BOGOTA: A Colombian by blood, I must put Bogota on this list. Along with Bloody Marias ($5) and a variety of Mimosas ($5), the brightly colored restaurant serves Refajo ($5), a mixed drink of Colombian beer and soda. It's delightfully light, yet not fruity. Bogota used to include an alcoholic drink with each brunch entree, but has since revised their menu to an earlier happy hour (starts at 11 am) at a cheaper price. Luckily, the quality and quantity hasn't changed.

#9 - PERCH: I've always stuck to the sweet and bubbly Mimosa route at brunch. However, one day at Perch, the bartender overheard me say that I'd never had a Bloody Mary ($7) and mixed a small version to sample. I was hooked. The spicy tomato juice concoction is paired perfectly with 3 briny green olives, a slice of lemon that compliments the acidity, and the standard stalk of celery. Just like the rest of Perch's menu, it is a hearty drink and well worth the money.

#8 - SCOTTADITO: When I'm made of money (which is rare), I head to Scottadito. The italian osteria on Union has a dreamy breakfast special that includes unlimited Mimosas and Champagne for $17.95. The high price point is a little hard to swallow, but the constant refills make it a little easier. The wait staff here is pretty good about making sure you get your money's worth in Champagne.

#7 - CHIP SHOP: When a friend suggested Chip Shop for brunch, I balked at the idea of mixing heavily fried food with the constant stream of alcohol in my stomach. They literally fry any food, don't they? Little did I know that the British eatery also serves a proper English breakfast with a Bucks Fizz and coffee for $12. The hangover special is delish and lives up to it's name.

#6 - PALO SANTO: There is something comforting about a Spanish brunch to ail your hangover. Palo Santo has a $15 prix fixe brunch menu that includes a choice of Mimosa or Sangria. When I was there, the staff offered to make our Mimosas with mango juice because of my friend's allergy to orange juice. The drinks are strong and match the dishes in intensity.

#5 - SIDECAR: Sidecar is the kind of bar/restaurant that you can pub crawl well into the night, then come back the next morning for a recovery meal and drink. The dimly lit restaurant makes no excuses about it, offering a drink called Breakfast. The elixir ($7) includes a taste of Bloody Mary mix, followed by a shot of jimador tequila and topped off with a bite of pickle. Other highlights include their Buck's Fizz ($8) made with grapefruit and angostura bitters. Pair a brunch drink with their spicy hangover soup and you're pretty much golden.Brunch menu at Mission Delores.

#4 - DIZZY'S: I love how Dizzy's encourages brunch drinking. Their delicious muffins help create a base of goodness for the cocktails, first one is only $3. Sure, there is a stroller crowd at this diner, but I'm willing to put up with kids for their Sangria ($8) and french toast.

#3 - SOTTO VOCE: They say crazy is doing the same thing and expecting different results. I keep going to Sotto Voce expecting the food to be better but it's not. Luckily, the meh-caliber Italian eatery has a powerful tool that keeps the restaurant packed on the weekends...unlimited Mimosas, Champagne and Bloody Marys. For $13.95, you can get a decent Italian breakfast, coffee, dessert, and all the booze you want.

#2 - FONDA: Fonda has everything you could want for a drunken brunch. The upscale Mexican restaurante serves reasonably priced Huevos Rancheros until 4pm. The Bloody Mary ($7) is strong and comes rimmed with crushed chili peppers. Also on the menu is Vampiro ($8), a spiced tomato juice cocktail with oaxaca chiles spiked tequila. Best of all are the complimentary Mimosas with any entree. So, yes, you can have both a Bloody Mary and a hibiscus Mimosa with no shame.

#1 - MISSION DOLORES: Let's cut the crap. Sometimes brunch isn't about the omelet of the day or the novelty of food piled cutely on top of a English muffin. Sometimes, it's about just drinking often and early in the day with others. In that case, head to Misson Dolores which has a wasabi Bloody Mary special ($7) on the weekends. They also have a great selection of beer for people who wish to keep their sinuses intact. Added bonus, Oaxaca taqueria is across the street if you do get hungry.
