the lesbians are taking over park slope (again)

For a long time, Park Slope had a reputation as being the land of the lesbians. Based on an informal survey of the singles scene I believed this reputation was vanishing. But fear not: 2010's census data is in, and it looks like lesbians outnumber gay men in the slope by about 82 couples. COOL OR NOT COOL: CATS IN BODEGAS?

These days it seems like every Park Slope bodega that I go into is also home to a cat.

Sometimes they actually greet you before walking in – lying outside the store in a nearby plant or stack of newspapers. Usually you catch ‘em inside when least expected; hiding under shelves or curled up by a window. These felines are laid back and tend to leave you alone, save for a meow here or there. After all, they’re there to chase the mice away.

Goodbye, Kamp: We hardly knew ya!

When KampThe Fifth Estate’s weekly gay night - started up back in February, we were excited. Finally, a high-energy alternative to the buzz-kill gay scene at Excelsior and Ginger’s. But after a few months of trying to grow Kamp, organizer Jace Meagher departed The Fifth Estate. As of last week he has effectively left Kamp without a head counselor, which is closing the door on yet another Park Slope gay night.
