Burglary At The Chip Shop!
Attention Park Slope business owners: You may want to step up your security, because The Chip Shop was burglarized on Friday morning and it looks like these fuckers knew what they were doing.
We spoke with co-owner Suzy Hackett about the event and she filled us in on the deets.
Early Friday morning (roughly 2:15am, Suzy's estimating), burglars broke into The Chip Shop via the side door (on 6th Street). They cut off the locks, bashed in the gate, and broke through the door. The perps didn't steal the computers or bash in any of the cash drawers. They didn't even grab any of that delicious imported candy. Instead, they went right for the safe and boom - they were gone.
Hackett wouldn't say how much they took, but as a cash-only restaurant, I'm guessing it was a lot of fried twinkies.
Police are currently investigating the crime, using surveillance video The Chip Shop had and fingerprints police took at the scene of the crime. The store was equipped with an alarm, but it didn't go off because the alarm was hooked to the door frame, and by bashing through the center of the door, the robbers never actually opened the frame. "The alarm's been fixed so that won't happen again," Hackett explained.
Still, Hackett had a positive outlook on the situation. "We've been here for 10 years, and nothing close to this has ever happened in any of our stores," said Hackett. "We're very lucky. No one was here or got hurt. And business is doing well, so we should be able to make it back. I just hope the other businesses in the area are aware, and watch out."
Us too, Suzy! Us too!
